**Our Team**:
The Region’s Facilities Project Management team focuses on the implementation of small and large projects varying from small renewal projects at existing regional buildings to the design and construction of new facilities or major renovations. The team manages an annual capital renewal plan, valued at over $35million for our 800+ buildings, as well as the capital budgets associated with the various growth projects such as the Airport Terminal Expansion, Grand River Transit Maintenance Facility, WRPS Central Division and the Waterloo Region Housing Master Plan. Our team consists of Jr. Project Coordinators, Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Sr. Project Managers, Sr. Program Manager and a Manager.
**The Opportunity**:
The Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing projects and/or initiatives in the Region. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, in this role you will be a welcome addition to our dynamic team. As Project Manager you will showcase your teamwork, problem-solving and organizations skills as you oversee design and constructions of major projects. You will be responsible for ensuring all construction is finished in a timely, environmentally safe, cost efficient, and acceptable manner.
- You will supervise students, provides technical advice to Section staff on in-house design projects and final contract drawings.
- You will manage, direct, control, and administer the design, construction, and commissioning of major construction projects.
- You will work with project team to define business and user requirements and recommend, plan, and develop technical strategies/solutions.
- You will investigate and evaluate project feasibility, developing recommendations and alternatives for new/existing systems/equipment and forecasting related resource requirements.
- You will administer consultant contracts, monitor project schedule, scope, and budget.
- You will perform design calculations and engineering analysis, review project designs, evaluate construction methods, develop project scope, and approve materials and equipment.
- You will develop schedules, organizes surveys, investigations, easement acquisitions, and land purchases.
- You will participate in tenders and selecting consultants and contractors, and review and negotiate work plans and budgets.
- You will ensure installation of equipment, furniture, security systems, and fitments.
- You will coordinate and monitor major furniture purchasing, delivery, and installations
- You will perform site visits, arrange inspections, establish deficiencies, conduct final inspections and issues completion certificates on behalf of the Region.
- Provides engineering expertise to divisional staff in resolving technical, operational, and construction problems.
- Participates on Divisional/Departmental team meetings, and regional committees to represent divisional interests.
- Knowledge and skill in engineering and/or architecture theory and principles, project management, contract law, budget preparation and monitoring, asset management, life-cycle management, and residential or commercial construction, acquired through an engineering / architecture degree accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board / Canadian Architectural Certification Board (or non-Canadian university degree assessed to meet equivalent academic standards), plus progressively responsible related experience.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and federal and provincial Ministry guidelines and legislation, technical and construction standards, contract law, building codes, fire, and insurance regulations, forms of agreement, and industry standards.
- Organizational, time management, continuous improvement, and problem-solving skills to manage projects simultaneously, and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Communication, human relations, and negotiation skills to promote asset management principles, administer contracts, coordinate projects, and participate as an effective team member.
- Ability to write/prepare project correspondence, reports, contracts, agreements etc. for public meetings.
