PAW-People for Animal Wellbeing is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest non-profit animal rescue shelters, taking in several thousand animals a year. With a new rebrand launch in 2022, the former name of the Greater Moncton SPCA now known as People for Animal Wellbeing (PAW) will show us as true leaders in animal care. PAW gives a fresh new look and brand name to better tell our story. PAW is dedicated to encouraging and motivating people to show compassion for all animals in their communities.

**Brief**
The Receptionist is primarily responsible for being the primary point of contact for the public through non in-person communications methods. In this role, the Receptionist acts as a conduit of information and direction to the public providing assistance, appointments and advice as required.

The Receptionist will work closely with members of the animal care and control teams, and directly reports to the Office

Manager in all matters, carrying out such activities as assigned.
The role is best suited to someone able with excellent interpersonal skills, a warm and friendly demeanor, the ability to maintain calm under pressure as well as the ability to effectively communicate with all community members.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Ensure a culture of high quality customer service for both internal and external customers.
- Embrace a culture of welcoming visitors to the shelter.
- Responsible for all aspects of financial transactions and balancing during hours of shelter operation.
- Responsible for the processing of financial transactions through the shelter database.
- Recognizing, recording and reporting any unusual condition or behavior of any animal in the shelter.
- Treat all animals humanely at all times; display kindness, compassion and empathy for both people and animals.
- Schedule animal surrenders and inform staff responsible for intake procedures of appointments.
- Intake and return of animals for cremation, from the public and commercial clients.
- Schedule animals being returned to owners, ensure animals are prepared to go home prior to appointments.
- Remain educated and up-to-date on the animals available for adoption.
- Enter lost and found reports made by the public into the shelter database.
- Provide advice to clients having problems with their pet with the goal of keeping the animal in the home.
- Maintenance of accurate and timely records (when required) of interactions with the public and/or animals.
- Compliance with the rules of operation, policies and procedures established by the organization.
- Maintaining a high level of professional and respectful communication and cooperation with all other PAW staff, the public, volunteers, clients and customers.
- Maintain a clean, well prepared and well-presented work area.
- Assisting with retail areas, such as accommodating sales, cleaning and/or restocking.
- Reporting of human resource concerns to the Operations Manager.
- Follow all end of day procedures, ensuring that the building is suitably secured and alarmed prior to leaving the building empty of all personnel.

**Secondary Responsibilities**:

- Performing the functions of other roles as required (such as, but not limited to, that of Animal Attendant)
- Support animal intake team, if required.
- Coordinating animal selection and transport for external events or programs.
- Assisting with the onboarding of new employees, providing support in the form of mentoring as needed.
- Ensuring progress towards completion of SMART goals assigned.

**Skills and competencies**:

- Ability to create and maintain accurate records is required.
- Knowledge of customer service principles which establish a positive customer experience is required.
- **Bilingualism required.**:

- The ability to learn and effectively use computer software.
- High school diploma preferred.
- Experience working alone with mínimal supervision and in close teams preferred.
- Knowledge of basic animal behaviour is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

**Working conditions**:
This role is an administration based position at the shelter location, there is mínimal requirement for outside activities.
