Criminal Justice Support Worker

The Central Alberta FASD Network is a non-profit organization offering community-based programming for individuals impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), and their caregivers and the community. We offer education, prevention, assessment and diagnosis, and outreach and support services. We are seeking to fill three full-time Criminal Justice Support Worker positions for the FASD Restorative Justice Court Diversion Program in Red Deer and throughout Central Region.
**Job Summary**:
**Summary of Duties**:
- Knowledge and experience working within the criminal justice system is preferred, but not necessary.
- Demonstrates a high level of knowledge and professionalism and able to liaise with all levels of the criminal justice system.
- Demonstrates the ability to work successfully with incarcerated individuals.
- Provides support services that include ongoing assessment of individual and/or family/caregiver functioning, relational systems and environmental constraints and resources.
- Supports positive, sustainable behavioral change as well as intrapersonal and interpersonal growth and development.
- Assists clients in navigating the FASD assessment and diagnosis process if applicable.
- Identifies barriers to service and addresses any concerns, such as client’s ability to provide a point of contact for themselves, scheduling assessments, transportation issues etc.
- Represents the Central Alberta Network at community events and through public awareness activities.
**Education and Qualifications**:
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in justice, social work, social science, or related field and/or comparable experience with FASD, disabilities, mental health, addictions.
- Minimum of 2 years work experience with vulnerable, marginalized or at-risk populations.
- Knowledge regarding disabilities, mental health and addictions, and justice related.
- Commitment to a strength-based, client-centred approach.
- Superior communication ability and interpersonal skills.
- High level of personal integrity and ethical practice.
- High degree of cultural awareness.
- Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and tight timelines.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.
- A vehicle and valid class 5 driver’s license.
The position is 35 hours/week, Monday - Friday; Capacity to work occasional evenings and weekends.
