About the Faculty of Medicine

**Position purpose**:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Implements measures to meet faculty graduate studies strategic objectives. Develops a strategic, tactical and operational efficiency approach in the Graduate Studies Office.

Ensures integrated management (supervision, planning and coordination) of academic and administrative activities regarding the records and university experience of graduate students, to recruit, retain and support a high quality student body for competitive academic programs. Handles liaison between University central bodies and the Faculty for graduate and postdoctoral studies.

**In this role, your responsibilities will include**:
Studies graduation rates, presents admission and enrolment objectives, and establishes the means to monitor objectives throughout the admissions process, by rapidly implementing corrective measures with the vice-dean as necessary, to maintain funding of the Faculty’s operating budget, encourage retention and reduce the time to graduation.

Determines short and long-term marketing and communications objectives and strategies, to promote graduate programs and thus recruit a pool of students, both nationally and internationally, from which selection of high quality applicants is possible. Develops and proposes best practices for graduate recruitment in Canadian and international markets.

Assists the vice-dean in his or her graduate studies leadership role. Participates in developing strategic plans according to areas determined by the Faculty, proposes projects and sees to project implementation. Conducts analyses and submits them to the vice-dean for discussion on implementation of any proposed plans or changes.

Provides leadership and guidance to Faculty programs so that they can properly meet their students’ needs. Assists program directors to ensure uniform program quality and standards for Faculty students.

Compiles and analyzes model business practices and implements new service provision models, to improve the quality and efficiency of services offered. Implements activities to ensure awareness of trends and innovations related to section operations.

**What you will bring**:
Theoretical and practical knowledge of management principles normally acquired through university studies or seven years’ experience in postsecondary academic management

Knowledge of university undergraduate and graduate programs (structures, curriculum, regulations)

Experience in analyzing academic records and interpreting university regulations and procedures

Experience in managing projects and priorities, with the ability to work under pressure and organize a team’s work to meet strict deadlines

Experience developing and implementing strategies and activity plans

Experience in human resource, team and conflict management

Strong critical thinking and analytical skills

Leadership capacity with very strong interpersonal skills

Strong skills in developing and using University IT systems (uoCampus, Xtender, Talisma) and software (Windows, word processors, spreadsheet programs, databases) needed to accomplish tasks
