Quality Improvement Specialist

The Quality Department provides leadership for the planning, implementation and evaluation of quality initiatives across all sites in the Network. The principal functional areas include: Leading organizational processes related to the Quality including corporate performance related to quality and governance of quality across the Network. The department also maintains accountability for the planning and execution of the corporate quality improvement plan.
- The **Quality Improvement Specialist** is recognized as an organizational expert in quality improvement, providing leadership and support for corporate performance excellence/quality improvement initiatives in alignment with the Strategic Plan and the Quality Improvement Plan;
**Responsibilities & Activities**
QIP Planning and Execution
- Leads Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) analysis, action plans and reporting in collaboration with clinical program teams;
- Leads implementation of QIP project plans both at the site and network levels;
- Reports on progress to project sponsors, site and network committees and senior leadership, which will include presentations at senior level committees and tables;
- Facilitates QIP planning sessions with leadership and program teams;
- Provides analysis on performance and recommendations for corrective actions;
- Collaborates with support services to provide value to stakeholders related to the QIP;
- Reports QIP to HQO and provides updates into the system related to progress;
- Supports site specific activity related to the QIP including facilitation of meetings, improvement boards on units and QI workshops to action change;
- Works with clinical experts to champion change initiatives through the QIP process;
- Uses innovative approaches to display data to prompt change
Quality Improvement Project Planning and Implementation
- Manages, coordinates and facilitates medium to large-scale quality/process improvement projects, leading to enhancing the Hospital's quality of care, patient experience and resource utilization
- Utilizes advanced process redesign tools, quality improvement methodology/tools and change management expertise to assess current state of complex processes and facilitate the development of the ideal future state;
- Communicates regularly with project sponsors, e.g., program/medical Directors and VPs regarding project status/emerging challenges and works collectively to ensure improvement project success.
- Collaborates with patient safety team regarding improvement opportunities;
- Collaborates with clinical programs on the development of new QI project opportunities to support planning related to QI projects;
- Provides strategic support to program teams on QI planning and projects;
- Reports progress of QI projects to quality leadership ensuring projects remain on track and appropriate risks raised when they do not;
- Supports Accreditation related projects as they emerge;
- Facilitates QI workshops and initiatives at a local level.
Quality Culture and Capacity Building
- Provides expert level QI knowledge and leads capacity building in Quality Improvement methodology across the organization to build a culture of sustainable improvement;
- Works with local teams at a strategic level to enable QI across the Network;
- Represents the organization and participates in the healthcare community through research, evaluation, conference abstract submissions and presentations;
- Contributes to the Network ReQuIST system for review of QI related academic projects;
- Supports the orientation process across the Network and onboarding of other quality assets;
- Participates in site and network activity as it relates to building a quality culture and capacity for improvement;
- Supports local teams on enabling a culture of quality in their areas including support on how to implement quality based approaches;
- Supports Accreditation initiatives across the Network;
- Provides strategic support to planning local QI workshops, events and initiatives;
- Develops education plans related to QI, as required for the Network and for local programs and teams.
Performs cross functional and other duties as assigned and/or requested.
**Knowledge & Skills**
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in leading quality/process improvement initiatives required;
- Previous experience developing and executing continuous improvement methodologies, e.g., Model for Improvement, LEAN, Six Sigma, etc., required;
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in engagement and consensus building strategies with diverse stakeholders, including Clinicians required;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skill required;
- Demonstrated strong analytical, organizational, conceptual and problem-solving skills required;
