About you and this role
Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Community Relations Manager located in Fort Saskatchewan (AB, CAN).
As the Canadian community relations manager, you are responsible for developing and implementing strategies and tactics focused on key community stakeholders in the communities where Dow has a presence in Canada. This role will be located at the Fort Saskatchewan site. The position aligns with Dow’s decarbonize and grow strategy and fully supports Dow’s ambition - to be the most Innovative, Customer-Centric, Inclusive and Sustainable materials science company in the world.
The Canadian Community Relations Manager role is responsible for planning and executing integrated, multi-channel internal and external communications plans that protect, build and drive Dow’s reputation and brand with key external stakeholder groups; support business objectives and priorities and drive growth; drive competitive advantage through advocacy as well as issue resolution; foster relationships and build goodwill for Dow at community levels; and drive employee engagement in alignment within the community.
In this role, you will require in-depth conceptual and working knowledge of community relations. You will need to understand stakeholder management best practices and how they are used to elevate and foster strong relationships with key community stakeholders. You will lead projects with manageable risks and resource requirements as well as serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues. You should also be able to explain difficult or sensitive information and work to build consensus with others.
It is your responsibility to analyze and resolve complex problems, examine information from multiple sources, and use judgement to evaluate established and new solutions. Your performance impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities within your own team and other related teams and requires that you work within established guidelines and policies.
This role is highly visible, action-oriented, and critical to maintaining Dow’s license to operate. Key attributes for success include, strong written and verbal communication skills, crisis management expertise, and stakeholder relationship management experience. The role will report to the NA North Communications and Community Relations Director and will receive direction from the Canadian Geographic Communications Lead for developing and implementing employee, site and growth project communications plans at the site level, and participating in media relations support. This position is also responsible for overseeing and managing site global citizenship (charitable) partnerships.
This role will support Communications efforts for the Path2Zero program, which will create the first net-zero emissions site of its kind in the world. The FS P2Z program is a key enabler to Dow’s Decarbonization strategy. Learn More:
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop Community Engagement strategies, implement outreach programs and manage the flow of information with the communities where Dow operates in Canada.
- Execute P2Z Community Investment strategy and partner closely with non-profits and municipalities to ensure all investment commitment metrics are achieved.
- Develop and implement the Global Citizenship strategy for Canada.
- Build, nurture and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, community members and local influencers in all communities where Dow has a presence in Canada.
- Provide Communications support for P2Z activities.
- Collaborate with Dow businesses and functions located within Canada to identify new opportunities to engage with community partners (financial, in-kind, volunteerism) to build resilient communities that are inclusive, sustainable and focused on developing a ready workforce.
- Serve as a member of the North American North crisis management and emergency response team.
- Plans and oversees the execution of Dow-led community events.
- Supports local media relations.
- Works in partnership with the Corporate Volunteer Manager to deliver on Dow’s Global Citizenship-related objectives within Canada.
