Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of the Vice-Principal Research portfolio and receiving strategic support from the Human Rights and Equity Office, the Research Advisor, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Indigenization (EDII) plays an integral role in supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion in research; Indigenous related research; and is responsible for contributing to the University’s overall EDII objectives. The incumbent provides expert advice and education to address EDII requirements in provincial, national and international funding competitions, and serves as a primary contact and strategic resource for researchers to integrate EDII into team composition, research design, processes, analysis, and interpretation, and communication of research results. The Research Advisor, EDII leads training, education and professional development activities to support the implementation of EDII initiatives within the Queen’s research community.
The Research Advisor, EDII is an experienced professional with a strong understanding of the academic research environment and demonstrated experience effectively communicating EDII knowledge, principles, regulatory and funding agency policy requirements and best practices. The incumbent is a key participant in guiding the University’s EDII plans and priorities as they relate to supporting the research community.
**Note**: The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to occasionally work flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends, according to area needs and to accommodate funding competition volume and deadlines.
**Job Description**:
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Lead planning, implementation and evaluation of education and training programming and professional development initiatives to advance and promote a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization within the research community. Dedicated activities include creating educational tools, resources, knowledge mobilization products, and delivery of presentations, workshops and training on EDII in research.
- Maintain current knowledge, scholarly expertise and continuing education about best practices in advancing EDII initiatives, including staying abreast of emerging trends in EDII within the research funding landscape, provincially, nationally and internationally. Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of University policies and procedures, hierarchy and protocols, as they relate to EDII activities in order to ensure timely and effective delivery of research advisory services.
- Cultivate and maintain strong networks and relationships with external organizations and individuals, such as funding agency representatives, to ensure that the University is up to date on world-leading organizational practices that support and advance EDII in research. Actively participate in on-going professional development and training initiatives and share best practices and resources to the research community.
- Liaise with other Queen’s units, such as the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and the Human Rights and Equity Office, representatives of other institutions and funding agency staff regarding the interpretation of agency/institutional guidelines and policies. As needed, serves as an advocate on behalf of faculty and community partners with agency/institutional staff.
- Develop, plan and implement strategies to increase awareness of EDII strategies in research within the University’s research community, and build greater understanding of connections between equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization principles and research excellence as it relates to the university’s research mission.
- Develop engagement and adoption strategies for informed and intentional EDII practices within research programs, including ongoing communication channels and ways to improve participation in education and training.
- Conduct qualitative research, which may require liaising with funding agencies and other universities; analyze data; identify trends and synthesize findings into reports to inform evidence-based planning and EDII strategy development for use by senior administration within the VP Research Portfolio, Research Project Advisors, and others as required.
- Create a positive work environment that supports and promotes a culture where a diverse range of ideas and perspectives are encouraged.
- Undertake other duties in EDII in research as assigned.
**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Master’s degree or Equivalent.
