**The Opportunity**

We are currently seeking a **Specialist, Operational Risk**to join our Ontario Operations team in Sudbury. This is a **permanent**position.

This role will support the plant manager (Risk Owner) in Health, Safety and Operational Risk, the Senior Operational Risk & Safety Specialist role is to provide expertise, coaching and direction to enable line management and contractors to achieve accountability for safety & risk management in their respective areas. The role is responsible for implementation of hazard identification and risk management processes linked to plant activities and processes, and for assurance and verification of Policies, Procedures and Work Practices in compliance with Vale standards and with Federal and Provincial regulations.

Additionally, in this position you will:

- Provide strategic technical leadership in Safety & Risk Management by monitoring system performance, identifying gaps, and realigning practices to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with corporate and regulatory standards.
- Act as a cross-functional specialist, facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing between mining plants to leverage operational strengths, optimize resource and equipment utilization, and drive efficiency across sites.
- Guide and support site personnel and leadership in developing and executing safety strategies, standards, and guidelines, while enhancing site-wide competencies through targeted training programs and risk assessment facilitation.
- Lead the implementation of VPS (Vale Production System) and other global risk management frameworks, ensuring alignment with international standards and integrating safety, asset integrity, operational, and compliance risks into daily operations.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees and regulatory agencies, to ensure regulatory compliance, effective risk management, and robust emergency preparedness, including mine rescue and community coordination.
- Drive performance and cultural change by supporting the development of site-specific strategies that reduce risk, improve environmental and production outcomes, and foster a high-performance, safety-first culture through coaching, mentoring, and continuous feedback.

**About You**

**Education**:

- Undergraduate degree in engineering, applied science or a related field is required.
- Post graduate completion of a Health and Safety program or Health and Safety certification is preferred (i.e. CCPS).

**Experience**:

- 8-10 years of relevant work experience, including 3 - 5 years of front line supervision.

**Skills**:

- Ten years’ related experience with a focus on Health, Safety and Risk Management.
- Understanding of operational site safety & Risk systems and programs.
- Extensive experience with safety systems and methods Bowtie analysis, RCA.
- Leadership & People Management (mentoring, leading, influencing others).
- Strong Work & Business Management Skills (resource, planning & work prioritization management, results focused).
- Experienced knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, international standards, and Injury Management.
- Good understanding of International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM) guidelines on Safety and Health.
- Knowledge and understanding of Risk and critical control management.
- Familiar with ISO 14001/45001.
