**Job Summary**
- The Office of Commercialization and Industry Engagement (OCIE) is the principal commercialization arm for Dalhousie University and affiliated entities and is responsible for creating demand for their research and technology. This demand creation results in the attraction of contract research, commercialization of institutionally owned technology and inventions, and the generation of local economic development. The Manager, Computer Science maximizes the potential and value of industry research in the Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) by building research relationships between FCS researchers and partner organizations in the industry, government, and non-profit sectors.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead and act on behalf of the FCS to establish relationships with companies leading to research contracts, sponsored research agreements and partnership agreements.
- Negotiate on behalf of the FCS and Dalhousie collaborators’ agreements that meet the highest standards for ethics, publication rights, legal rights, intellectual property rights and compensation terms.
- Work with other units on campus and off-campus economic-development agencies (e.g., Invest Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) to identify prospective partners.
- Work with researchers in the FCS and other stakeholders to support the development and management of applied-research projects within the Faculty. Assisting with business aspects of proposal development and ensuring that projects within the Faculty are managed effectively over their life course.
- Ensure that necessary reporting and other communications occur in a timely fashion.
- Partner with other organizations to arrange workshops on research commercialization for researchers and students and raise awareness of FCS research with incubators and other commercially focused organizations.
**Note**
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in computer science or engineering with at least five years’ direct business development business experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Excellent interpersonal skills are vital to this role and the ability to work one-on-one with researchers and with groups of both scientists and business people.
- Presentation skills and ability to address a large audience such as a faculty or university seminar.
- Excellent skills in dealing with research clients and private sector partners particularly on-line communication platforms (i.e. Team and Zoom) and written communications.
- The ability to assist Interns, Associate Managers, and Managers and in managing difficult and complex problems and to work with industrial partners, licensees and external counsel and to oversee their activities in some cases.
