Barkman has about 250 team members across four provinces (MB/SK/AB/BC), and you will have the opportunity to personally connect, as a HR professional, with all individuals. Focused on a high standard of internal customer service, the HR/Safety team plays a vital role in providing a people focused work environment through our recruitment and onboarding practices, training and career development offerings, benefits and compensation programs and safe work practices.
This role is ideal for a person who may have recently finished their Human Resources Management Certificate or a person who has a few years of HR experience with a payroll or accounting background. If you enjoy a broad variety of responsibilities, making a positive impact in employee experience and branding, are particular in administrative detail and numerical accuracy, and are interested in cross training opportunities in Payroll and other HR/Safety functions, this may be right for you.
**Your day at Barkman may include activities such as**:
- Onboarding new hires following the company’s onboarding pathing procedures, completing new hire forms and IT/Industrial training requests, scheduling Orientation, and assisting hiring manager with onboarding path as requested.
- Partnering with HR/Safety team members to present at Orientations, policy rollouts or training programs.
- Administrating the benefits programs with enrolment, orientation presentations, payroll updates, premium invoicing, monthly billing, and reconciling.
- Tracking benefit and performance management milestones and providing leadership with the necessary documentation to complete reviews which includes but not limited to probation, 3/6-month reviews or group insurance enrollment, annual reviews or RRSP/DPSP enrolment.
- Becoming a backup to the Payroll Administrator to assist with daily time and attendance, mass salary/premium updates, and full payroll processing to cover for vacation.
- Being well versed in Western Canada provincial Employment Standards, Human Rights Codes, basic safety regulations and payroll legislation to ensure compliance of policies, programs, training requirements and employee relations.
- Assisting with projects such as legislation review, employer of choice best practices, aligning policies across provinces, job descriptions, drafting various HR/Safety documents, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Being a resource to leadership in employee relations in terms of Employment Standards, reviewing options for performance management strategies, internal transfers or promotions, providing data such as attendance reports or past performance management documentation, drafting performance management forms/letters and aiding in employee investigations or conversations.
- Providing guidance and support to employees who have questions regarding employment, concerns with co-workers or leadership, benefit inquiries, internal job postings, etc.
- Other duties include participating in corporate event preparations, job fairs, safety events and networking functions.
This role will work mostly out of our Steinbach facility however, travel will be required to our Winnipeg facility and may include occasional travel to Alberta and BC. Spending dedicated time in both the office and in production is equally important to understand the company’s functions, job roles and the various work environments. Wearing PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes and hearing protection when in production areas is required.
- Education in Human Resource Management, business admin and/or payroll administration
- Understanding or experience with benefits (group insurance, RRSP) and payroll administration
- Experience with manufacturing or construction work environments an asset
- Comfortable talking to individuals and groups of people for interviews, orientation, training, and performance management
- Accuracy in reconciling spreadsheets, strong writing skills along with organization and time management skills
- A positive, energetic attitude, who can connect with people
- A focus on teamwork, continuous improvement, and open communication
- Ability to be flexible in cross training for multiple responsibilities and multitask in a busy work environment
- Excellent computer knowledge using office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Valid Driver’s license to travel to Barkman facilities
- Flexible in work schedule to accommodate interview times, training, and employee meetings
- Interest in continued personal career development and continuous education informally and formally

**Salary**: $40,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
