The Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives division provides strategic and integrated policy and project services and functions for Justice. The division’s focus centers on cross-divisional and cross-ministry projects such as strategic policy initiatives, business transformations and Justice Digital. The Legislative Services unit, in the Strategic Policy and Planning Branch, provides legislative services to the Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives division and support across Alberta Justice.
**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director, Legislative Services, the Manager, Legislative Services is responsible for providing expertise in legislative planning, development, and project management services.
The Manager of Legislative Services ensures the delivery of high-quality legislative services within government policies and procedures, decision making and legislative processes, and provincial legislative drafting standards and practices, in line with the department's strategic priorities and goals. Legislative development activities may include oversight, design, development, advice, research, analysis, identifying issues and solutions, drafting legislative documents, and the overall management of legislative development projects and processes.
Key responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage legislative development projects in alignment with the department’s strategic plan and priorities:
- Provide effective leadership and direction regarding the planning of legislative projects, including providing guidance on the legislative and decision-making processes.
- Prepare Ministerial and/or Cabinet approval packages for implementation of Acts and Regulations.
- Consult and liaise with stakeholders including Legislative Counsel Office, Legal Services, program areas and other departments in the development of legislative projects.
2. Support the department’s legislative-related activities:
- Provide support to the department’s legislative-related counts, reviews and other priorities as needed.
- Coordinate or draft responses for input requests related to other Ministries' legislative planning initiatives.
3. Support the Legislative Services unit and manage the Senior Legislative Analyst and Legislative Analyst positions (two direct reports):
- Provide guidance and direction to direct reports to ensure the successful delivery of assigned projects.
- Provide the Director with advice and recommendations for emerging issues, opportunities, and challenges associated with the work of the unit.

**Minimum Requirements**:
- Bachelor's degree in public administration, law, policy, political science, business; or related.
- Four (4) years policy and legislative development experience.
