**Role Responsibilities**:
Lead Legislative Innovation in Alberta’s Tax System Join Us as the Director, Legislation at Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA).

Reporting to the Executive Director of Tax Services, the Director, Legislation is responsible for managing legislative changes and regulatory updates across all tax programs administered by the Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA). You will play a key role in shaping tax legislation by working closely with other areas of TRA, tax policy, legislative counsel, and external stakeholders. As the primary liaison with legislative counsel, you will guide the drafting and approval process for new legislation and regulations, ensuring they align with policy intent and administrative needs. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of tax administration in Alberta.

This role also involves developing and updating TRA's policy manual, negotiating inter-jurisdictional agreements, and supporting TRA’s mission by resolving complex tax objections, providing legislative advice, and delivering technical training.

**Roles and Responsibilities**
As the Director, Legislation, you will be at the forefront of Alberta's legislative processes, performing key duties that include:

- Coordinating legislative changes: Lead the legislative and regulatory amendment process for all TRA programs. This involves working closely with legislative counsel, tax policy, and all TRA branches to propose and implement amendments.
- Liaising with government bodies: Represent TRA at Cabinet Policy Committee, Legislative Review Committee, and other meetings to present and support legislative changes.
- Policy manual management: Oversee updates to TRA’s Policy Directives Manual, ensuring new policies reflect legislative changes and meet operational needs.
- Stakeholder engagement: Lead consultations with internal and external stakeholders, including industry professionals, taxpayers, and legal advisors, to gather input on legislative amendments.
- Inter-jurisdictional negotiations: Coordinate and finalize agreements such as memorandums of understanding with other provincial, federal, and international tax jurisdictions, ensuring alignment with TRA’s strategic goals.
- Objections and appeals: Provide expert advice on objection resolutions and review and approve the resolution of objections where the Director of Objections and Appeals has a conflict of interest
- Technical guidance and training: Collaborate with the Director, Interpretations to deliver technical sessions on tax matters and legislative changes for both internal teams and external stakeholders.

**Role Responsibilities Continued**:
As the Director, Legislation, you will have the unique opportunity to directly influence Alberta’s tax system by guiding legislative processes that shape how tax programs are administered. This role allows you to collaborate with top decision-makers and legal experts, developing solutions that implement policy, reduce red tape and improve the taxpayer experience. You will have the autonomy to lead high-impact projects and work with a diverse group of stakeholders, ensuring that Alberta’s tax legislation remains fair, efficient, and responsive to emerging trends.

Your work will drive positive change across multiple programs, including corporate tax, fuel tax, tobacco tax, and tourism levy. You will be part of a dynamic team focused on continuous improvement, and your efforts will help modernize and streamline tax legislation and regulation in Alberta. In addition, you will have the chance to mentor and guide TRA staff, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable work environment.
