For many years, Mary Centre has been helping people with developmental disabilities to work towards greater self-confidence and personal independence so they can take part in fulfilling educational, employment and life experiences.
Mary Centre is currently seeking one (1) person to fill a Temporary Day Program Direct Support Professional position. The Direct Support Professional will facilitate the day to day operations of a comprehensive Adult Day program by participating in goal oriented recreational programming for adults with a developmental disability who are experiencing cognitive decline.
**Location**: Toronto, Ontario
**Reports To**: Program Coordinator
**Working Conditions**: Forty (40) hours per week based on program needs
**Qualifications**
Community College Diploma in Developmental Services or related University or College Degree in Social or Health services. Minimum two (2) years experience working or volunteering with people with a developmental disability.
**Mandatory Requirements**:
- Possess a Valid Ontario Driver’s License class G.
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate
- Valid Designated Physical Restraints Training Program Certificate
- Computer Skills - Microsoft Word and Excel
- Clear vulnerable sector police check
- Acceptable proof of full COVID-19 vaccination must be provided and any other booster needle(s) as recommended by Public Health.
**Key Qualifications**
- To establish a comprehensive Adult Day Program by participating in a goal orientated programming for people with a developmental disability.
- Sound knowledge of social/ recreational and leisure activities for people with developmental disabilities. Ability to be creative and engage people in activities of their interest.
- Assist people supported in achieving the goals they set for themselves.
- To develop and distribute the monthly Day Program Calendar of activities.
- Ability to assess and instruct in life skills/ planning and supporting individuals needs.
- Knowledge on how to implement and follow Behavior Support Plans. Provide appropriate professional understanding and intervention in response to emotional, behavioral, and physical needs of people.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work collaboratively with families, advocates and community partners in order to help a person build a better life.
- Utilize a holistic approach to identify Individuals needs
- Provide assistance around aspects of personal care.
- Maintain a caseload as designated by the Program Coordinator/Director of Services
- Ability to work independently as there is only one (1) Direct Support Professional working with the people who participate in the Day Program.
- To work closely with the Out of Home Respite Program as there may be cross over of duties.
- Following and promoting the program location’s goals and inclusiveness.
- Knowledge of Dementia and Alzheimer’s
- Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, including lifting, bending and prolonged standing.
- Strong organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
- Professionalism, exercise good judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential information.
- Strong documentation, communication, analytical, problem solving skills and ability to respond to crisis situations.
- Recognizing people’s right to self-determination, and valuing their unique gifts while encouraging continuous growth and development.
- Knowledge of Passport Funding and community participation
- Ability to keep work environment up to Health and Safety Standards including following all Infection Prevention and Control Measures, program location cleanliness and free of hazards.
- French language skills will be considered an asset

Contract length: 9 months
Pay: $24.69 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
