Scale Up Technician

**JOB PURPOSE**:
Contribute to the development and scaled up production of early stage active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and intermediates in a safe and efficient manner that is compliant with current procedures and client’s expectations.

**Shift time**:10:00am
- 6:00pm

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Conduct preparative scale (10 mL to 100 L) organic chemistry operations including production activities such as
- Loading/unloading vessels
- Transferring liquids and solids between vessels
- Charging liquids and solids to a vessel
- Performing gas additions from pressurized cylinders
- Completing batch filtrations and distillations (e.g. vacuum distillations) while monitoring parameters
- Operation of process equipment (e.g. pumps/hoses, sparkler filters, robot filters, scrubber systems, heating/cooling units)
- Consult with scale-up team members to resolve chemistry and/or equipment issues that may arise during production & cleaning
- Provide basic troubleshooting on manufacturing equipment and processes in areas of qualification in conjunction with a senior level Technician/R&D Scale-up team members
- Dismantle, clean, assemble and set-up production equipment and complete cleaning logs
- Sample materials and products by preparing the sampling and protective equipment, obtaining the sample and submitting to the R&D group with the proper labelling & documentation
- Maintain cleanliness and order of work area to ensure good housekeeping and safety compliance
- Handle potentially bioactive product while ensuring good hygiene practices
- Actively train on R+D Manuals, R+D Scale Up (RDSU) Manuals and safety procedures, as required
- Document and record all necessary information/data/observations as per R&D Scale-Up procedures and batch requirements (e.g. batch sheets, logs, equipment ID cards etc.)
- Provide guidance to R&D Chemist and other production technicians, as required
- Participate in opportunities to develop industry relevant production knowledge
- Practice compliance with current operating procedures and safe operations (e.g. wearing Personal Protective Equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus and cartridge respirators)
- Assist in maintaining chemical inventory

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**:

- EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ATTAINMENT
- Secondary school education

JOB RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED2-3 years experience in production position within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.

**SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**

- Ability to resource chemical information such as hazard info and chemical inventories
- Skills and knowledge in handling hazardous chemicals (WHMIS)
- Knowledge of production equipment such as scrubber system, pumps/hoses, sparkler filters, robot filters, heating/cooling units
- Ability to work within a operations environment
