**Position Title**
- Indigenous Student Services Generalist**Position Summary**
- The Indigenous Student Services Generalist provides front line support and service for First Nation, Metis, Non-Status, and Inuit students. The Indigenous Student Services Generalist communicates with internal and external service providers and stakeholders to link students to the services and supports that they require to be successful, and by assisting them with making informed decisions concerning their educational goals. This position is part of a collaborative team that works to develop and improve processes that attract and retain Indigenous learners to RDP and supports them as they move from prospective student to successful graduate.
- The Indigenous Student Services Generalist supports the strategic work of the Director, Indigenous Initiatives who determines institutional strategies and priorities related to Indigenous education, services and supports for Indigenous learners.
- This position requires a high degree of flexibility, initiative, and resourcefulness to help support RDP achieve Indigenous student enrollment and retention targets. The Indigenous Student Services Generalist provides assistance to the Director with Indigenous community engagement and other activities that support current and prospective Indigenous students.**Position Responsibilities**
**Service Delivery**
- Provides front line support to prospective and current Indigenous students who require assistance with admission criteria, transfer requirements, programs, funding, housing etc.
- Develop online and printed resources for Indigenous students to assist them with navigating both internal and external support/community services and addresses frequently asked questions
- Communicates with First Nations, Metis, Non-Status and Inuit funding agencies
- Collaborates with specialized services on campus to develop general knowledge of admission criteria, transfer requirements, program completion, funding, housing, and other resources
- Knowledge of funding sources off/on Reserves for First Nations, Metis, Non-status, and Inuit current and prospective students
- Work with RDP service areas to develop and implement consistent processes to establish seamless delivery of services to Indigenous students
- Develop and deliver presentations
- Attend RDP student events such as New Student Orientation, Student Welcome, Recruitment and other events as required
- Develop a thorough knowledge of RDP policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of post-secondary program options and available services and supports available to Indigenous students at other Alberta post-secondary institutions
**Programming and Implementation of Cultural and Student Events**
- Provide assistance to the Director, Indigenous Initiatives with the planning and delivery of events and activities
- Provide assistance to the Director, Indigenous Initiatives with providing support and guidance to the Indigenous Student group
- Provide assistance to the Director, Indigenous Initiatives with collaborative RDC post-secondary initiatives in First Nations, Non-Status, Metis and Inuit communities
**Administrative Duties**
- Support administrative tasks and other related duties as assigned by the Director, Indigenous Initiatives
- Support the Director, Indigenous Initiatives with the development of plans and the completion of reports and presentations

**Required Qualifications**
- Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of University in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent in related discipline such as: Native Studies, Indigenous Administration, Indigenous Studies, Social Work or Business Administration
- One to two years working in related field
- Knowledge of Indigenous heritage, language and understanding of the social structure and cultural norms that influence the successful transition of an Indigenous student into the post-secondary environment
- Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action
- Effective listening skills
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Ability to build relationships with students and internal and external
- Respect for diversity and inclusion
- Demonstrated student-centered approach
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio
- Experience generating and analyzing reports
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to be flexible and research creative solutions to benefit students in need
- Strong analysis and problem solving abilities
**Preferred Qualifications**
- CPR/first aid preferred
- Preference will be given to individuals with Indigenous descent/ancestry
