**Job Overview**
Position Summary
Sendero Centre is seeking an Indigenous Education Specialist to support our education and community outreach programming. This role is focused on delivering prevention and awareness education to children, youth, and adults within Indigenous communities across Central Alberta.
As a key liaison between Sendero and Indigenous communities, the Specialist will facilitate interactive and culturally relevant programming on topics including consent, healthy relationships, and sexual violence prevention. This position includes both in-person and virtual presentations, community relationship building, and participation in local events and gatherings.
This role requires someone who is passionate about education, skilled in public speaking, culturally connected, and committed to supporting Indigenous communities in a trauma-informed and respectful way.
Key Responsibilities
Program Delivery & Development
- Plan, prepare, and deliver age-appropriate, interactive presentations in schools and community settings (Kindergarten to Grade 12, as well as adults and professionals).
- Adapt content to meet cultural, language, and presentation needs identified by Indigenous communities.
- Support education in non-Indigenous rural and urban communities as needed.
- Stay current on best practices and research in prevention education topics such as consent, healthy relationships, and sexual violence.
Community Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities (particularly Maskwacis, O’Chiese, Sunchild, and Big Horn 144A First Nations).
- Attend interagency meetings, community events, and celebrations.
- Represent Sendero at public education forums, information booths, and outreach initiatives.
Reporting & Administration
- Maintain accurate records, including statistics and program data.
- Submit regular reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) to the Education Lead.
- Participate in regular team check-ins and meetings.
- Keep school and community contact lists updated and maintain regular communication.
Team & Organizational Responsibilities
- Attend staff meetings, training, and development sessions.
- Provide backup support for other programs and team members as needed.
- Uphold Sendero’s values, policies, and strategic goals.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; or a combination of education and 2+ years of relevant teaching or facilitation experience.
- Identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis).
- Strong ties or knowledge of Central Alberta Indigenous communities is highly preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Exceptional public speaking and facilitation skills.
- Experience working with children and youth in group or classroom settings.
- Ability to relate well to both young audiences and adult professionals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Fluency or familiarity with Indigenous languages (Cree, Dene, Stoney, Michif, etc.) is a strong asset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficient in using Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms.
Other Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, satisfactory Driver’s Abstract, and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
- Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and meet physical demands of presentations and travel.
- Willingness to travel within Central Alberta and work occasional evenings/weekends.
Work Environment
- This position includes both office-based work and community-based outreach.
- Exposure to trauma-related content is part of the role; emotional resilience and a trauma-informed approach are essential.

Contract length: 12 months
Pay: $40,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
