Position Information

**Position Title**
- Student Connect Centre Advisor**Position Summary**
- Do you have an interest in contributing to the success of students? We have an opportunity for you to become part of the Student Connect Centre team as a permanent part-time Advisor.
- The Student Connect Centre serves as a single point of contact for students to access academic, award, and funding information. This generalist advising position’s primary responsibility is to provide front line support and service to assist students in making informed decisions concerning their educational goals. The position is part of a collaborative team that builds and improves the processes that attract learners to RDP and supports them as they move from prospective student to graduate.- Using a learner-centered approach this position will provide guidance to current and prospective students to ensure they have the appropriate academic and financial supports to successfully achieve their educational goals. This role requires the ability to solve complex problems, make decisions and find solutions while exercising independent judgment and maintaining confidentiality. This position requires a high degree of flexibility, creativity, initiative, and collaboration.**Position Responsibilities**

**Responsibilities of the Student Connect Centre Advisor include but not limited to**:
**General Client Service**
- Provide information to students in a holistic manner.
- Refer students to other services and resources as necessary.
- Enter information into Banner and prepare reports as needed.

**Academic Advising**:

- Deliver academic advising to current and prospective students.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of admission criteria, transfer requirements and program completion options.
- Assist students in the development of an educational plan.
- Assist students with admission/registration forms.

**Awards**:

- Screen students and refer them to the award opportunities they may be eligible to receive.

**Funding**:

- Screen students and refer them to the appropriate type of funding for their unique situation.
- Advise students on the process for submitting missing information and funding appeals.
- Provide instructions for processing funding certificates, agreements, etc.

**Emergency Funding**:

- Recognize that a student is in crisis, even if the student is not forthcoming regarding the full nature of their situation.

**Financial Wellness**:

- Refer students to financial wellness services at RDP and in the external community.
- Assist students to budget their resources.

**Other Specialized Responsibilities**
- Complete specialized project work as assigned by the Associate Registrar, Student Services or SCC Specialist.
- Administrative support for the SCC as required.

**Required Qualifications**
- Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of University in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent.
- License/Registration required: Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract.
- Experience in the post-secondary sector.
- Student advising and counseling experience.
- One to two years’ experience in a similar role.
- Superior communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills.
- Must be a team player and also able to work independently.
- Superior organization and planning skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Must be able to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a high volume work environment.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience with a student information system such as Banner is an asset.
- Knowledge of government funding or awards administration.
- Experience in recruitment.
