**Summary**:
To supervise, organize, coordinate, coach and mentor staff within the Forestry Operations division
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Determine requirements of manpower and material.
- Organize, assign and lay out the work of the tree crew, including:
- Trimming and removal of trees on City boulevards, all City parks, cemeteries, and other municipal property,
- Maintain, spray and fertilize City trees,
- Tree surgery involving cavity, cabling and bolting work,
- Emergency work (storm damage), e.g. removing dangerous limbs, removing debris,
- Other duties involving aerial work, e.g. replacing lights, installing nets for sports parks, and Christmas decorations.
- Organize and supervise workers during overtime hours.
- Be well versed in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Regulations thereunder, and safe working conditions and practices in municipal field operations.
- Supervise in detail the performance of workers, as to quality, quantity and safety.
- Participate in the selection and indoctrination of new employees, and the rating of employee performance.
- As necessary, instruct workers in methods to be employed.
- Maintain and submit required records, charge numbers, materials and equipment.
- Responsible for tools and equipment assigned.
- Responsible for the welfare and discipline of the workers and hear complaints and grievances.
- Make recommendations to superiors on personnel, safety, material, equipment and methods.
- Respond to inquiries of public and telephone inquiries.
- Act on behalf of Manager during vacation periods, in regards to inquiries of a technical nature in his/her area when so assigned.
- Perform other similar and related duties, as required.
**Accountable for**:
- The quality and quantity of the work performed by the crew.
- The effective use of the staff assigned.
- Adherence to, and promotion of, appropriate standards of health and safety.
**Position Requirements**:
- Qualifying licences or certificates required include E.U.S.A., C.P.R., First Aid and I.S.A. Certification (Arborist), Ontario Certified Arborist. TRAQ certification.
- 5 years experience in a supervisory position.
- Municipal by-law experience would be an asset
- A personally suited for developing, leading, and managing staff, preferably but not necessarily supplemented by formal training in management, with evidence of leadership skills.
- Excellent organizational skills to cope with constantly changing priorities.
- Good oral communications skills and competence in written communications.
- A self-starter, with an appreciation of the principles of public service, and willingness to work unscheduled hours.
- Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness training.
- A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
**Salary Range**: Minimum $74,516 annually; Maximum $93,145 annually
**Expected Work Location**: Lake St Service Centre
**Hours of Work**:Currently Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:00pm
