**ELEMENTARY** SCHOOL ASSISTANT**

25.75 hours/week School Term

**THE ROLE**

This is general clerical and supervision work providing support services in an elementary school. An employee of this class provides general office, library and/or classroom assistance. Work performance is reviewed and evaluated by an administrator in terms of effective services rendered to the school.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS**
- Sound knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic.
- Working knowledge of the rules and regulations governing school office, library and/or classroom practices and procedures.
- Working knowledge of modern office, library and/or classroom practices and procedures.
- Working knowledge of methods and procedures in controlling and regulating behaviour of students.
- Ability to perform a variety of general office, library or classroom assistance tasks.
- Ability to operate general office and/or school equipment.
- Ability to maintain order and safety of students using behaviour management and conflict resolution techniques.
- Ability to administer basic first aid.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and parents in supplying assistance and information.
- Skill in keyboarding.

**DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE**

The rate of pay will be $30.74/hour
