Our Strength is People. is a true expression of our belief that our people are our competitive advantage. **ArcelorMittal Dofasco** **Global Research and Development** **Material and Metallurgical Analyst** **(Permanent Position)** **Accountabilities***: - Conduct defect analysis and characterization of steel that has failed during manufacturing or in service - Provide technical support to R&D projects by performing various metallographic analysis - Maintain up to date knowledge in equipment and testing procedures - Report writing to communicate the outcome of defect and failure analysis investigations. - Support Global Research and Development projects as required **Education and Experience**: - Bachelors degree in Materials / Metallurgical Engineering, or College diploma in a materials related field is required - Other degrees or qualifications that aid flexibility in an R&D lab will be considered **Knowledge & Skills**: - Knowledge of Physical Metallurgy, the structure of materials and their related properties - Knowledge of microstructures, chemical and mechanical properties of ferrous alloys. - Experience with failure analysis and some steel metallurgical defects - Familiarity with standard automotive and construction products and coatings - Capable of routine metallographic preparation techniques such as cross-sectioning, mounting and polishing - Familiarity with various ASTM testing methods for measuring metallographic features - Ability to perform various routine metallographic tests and analysis. Examples include: - Analysis of grain structure and steel phases - Grain size, inclusion ratings, coating thickness - Microhardness testing - Optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examinations - Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS) analysis - Various etching techniques - Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. **Work Environment** - The manufacturing plant environment includes exposure to dust, chemicals, temperature changes, noise and large industrial equipment. **Hours of Work**: - Arcelormittal Dofasco is a 24/7 facility - Normal hours of work for this position is “days”, Monday to Friday, with extended hours as required to meet project deadlines or resulting from periods of peak workload **Total Rewards at ArcelorMittal Dofasco** - We provide employees with a market competitive total compensation package.
