**About the Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Director of Privacy, and indirectly to the Senior Director of Research and the Vice President, Legal, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, the Privacy Officer - Research is responsible for managing the research privacy stream within NSH, providing expert advice and support to ensure NSH’s compliance with applicable legislation, as well as internal research and privacy policy and procedures.
The Privacy Officer - Research serves as the main point of contact for privacy matters within their portfolio. They lead, engage and support the development and implementation of a robust privacy culture at NSH as it impacts or relates to the Research Portfolio, within the Department of Research, including processing consult requests, and supporting the development and delivery of procedures, education and training to promote awareness and understanding of related legislation and NSH processes.
The role of the Privacy Officer - Research is instrumental to fostering a robust privacy culture at NSH that values the need for and importance of balancing protection of personal and personal health information (PI/PHI).
The Privacy Officer - Research will work closely with the Director of Privacy to review and update best practices for the research privacy review process, including risk inquiries, and the development of new forms, policies, and procedures.
**About You**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- University undergraduate degree in a related field (public administration, health administration, health records management, or law).
- Knowledge of research ethics, privacy and security principles and practices, including legal precedents established or followed in Nova Scotia and other Canadian jurisdictions.
- Strong research, analytical and interpretive skills.
- Demonstrated experience providing privacy risk guidance and conducting privacy impact assessments (PIAs) on technology-based projects.
- Exceptional organizational skills and experience reviewing, comprehending, and managing large volumes of material and tasks.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated success establishing credibility with individuals at all levels of an organization, stakeholders, and the public, as well as in environments that require a high degree of tact, diplomacy, integrity, and impartiality.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work both independently as well as collaboratively.
- General knowledge of records management, information technologies, and information management and security principles.
In addition to the required experience and skills, the following would be considered an asset:
- Experience with emerging and innovative technologies and practices.
- Experience working with other Nova Scotia privacy legislation such as the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPOP), the Personal Information and International Disclosure Protection Act (PIIDPA), and the Privacy Review Officer Act (PROA).
- Canadian certification with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) such as CIPP/C, CIPP/E or equivalent credential.
- Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS-2) Certificate or equivalent certification.
- Knowledge and/or training on Good Clinical Practices (GCP) standards
- Competencies in other languages (French preferred).
- Knowledge and/or training on First Nations principles of Ownership Control Access and Possession (OCAP) data governance standard.

**Compensation and Benefits**:
$38.36 - $47.95 Hourly
($74,802.00 to $93,502.50 Annually)
