**Context**

KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives is an ecumenical movement for ecological justice and human rights. KAIROS includes three program Circles, a network of activists, and regional representatives, educators, and partners in Canada and around the world who help guide our work. We have an office in Toronto and home offices across the country.

KAIROS is seeking a dedicated, highly organized, relational, Grant Writer who, as a member of the Finance Team, supports KAIROS’ programs and operations through securing grant opportunities.

**Position Purpose**

The KAIROS Grant Writer will lead our efforts in securing funding from institutional donors, government bodies and private foundations to support KAIROS’ local and global programs in human rights and ecological justice. Key position functions of the Grant Writer include researching grant opportunities, writing compelling grant proposals to acquire funding and working with the leadership team to ensure ongoing financial sustainability. You will work directly with our financial team to understand our financial needs and ensure we attain funding.

**Primary Areas of Responsibility**

**Development and Research**
- Assist with the execution of the organizational development strategy;
- Collaborate with Programs & Operations staff to compile an annual report;
- Stay updated on funding trends, guidelines and eligibility criteria from various government agencies, foundations and private donors;
- Conduct comprehensive research to identify potential grant opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission and programs and identify key institutional funding opportunities for potential submission of concept notes and proposals;
- Prepare briefs on identified funding opportunities to be shared with KAIROS program staff;
- Stay abreast of institutional funding trends and opportunities; and
- Contribute to internal learning processes created to support organizational growth.

**Collaboration and Development**
- Collaborate with colleagues to identify strategic opportunities to share Kairos program impacts and results and learning through relevant meetings, networks, conferences and other events.
- Work closely with Fundraising Coordinator and Finance Manager to develop accurate and realistic grant budgets; and
- Create resources and manage supporting documents to improve funder experience and reporting.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- University or College. Degree in Communications, English, Non-Profit Management or other relevant degree;
- Successful track record in Grant Writing and/or Fundraising;
- Commitment to the mission and values of KAIROS;
- Comfort working in an ecumenical Christian context;
- Proven work experience as a Grant Writer;
- Proficient with measuring and reaching income goals;
- Strong ability to work collaboratively and respectfully;
- Ability to work independently, taking initiative, and collaboratively and respectfully within a diverse and virtual work environment;
- Excellent verbal/written, relational and inter-personal communication skills with the ability to make presentations; Conflict resolution skills;
- Exceptional organizational, planning, problem solving, follow through skills, together with the flexibility to switch easily from one task to another to effectively juggle multiple tasks at the same time as situations or priorities change;
- Ability to work effectively with government bodies, educational institutions and other organizational actors;
- A strong understanding of power dynamics and privilege within an anti-racism, anti-oppression framework; and
- Recognition of personal and professional boundaries.

**Working Conditions**

KAIROS has adopted a hybrid workplace model, providing flexibility for this position. This position will work remotely from a home office and spend time traveling to the Toronto office and other parts of Canada for meetings and events. Sitting and viewing a computer screen for long periods, keyboarding, using voice recognition software, intermittent physical activity including sitting, standing, and being on the phone for long periods of time will be required. Occasional additional hours, attendance at weekend meetings and events, and travel within and outside Canada may be required.
