This is an ideal position for a recent graduate of a Personal Support Worker, DSW or SSW Program. This position will allow you to gain experience working with a marginalized population with a history of chronic homelessness, involved in the criminal justice system, diagnosed with mental health illness, and struggling with addiction.

The Personal Support Worker is responsible for providing basic care and support to the resident in a safe and comfortable environment. The Personal Support Worker, along with the other employees at Murray's Windermere Gardens, will work closely with the people they care for to provide their communities with the highest level of quality care.

**Education & Certification**:

- Completion of a Personal Support Worker program or equivalent training.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening. Employment offers are based on the ability to obtain reliability status clearance.

**TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION**
- Employees must take part in seven (7) days paid orientation and annual training thereafter.
- Employees must maintain First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Employees are encouraged to maintain other relevant certifications such as NVCI and ASIST.
- All staff will be trained in the use of Naloxone.
- All staff will read the Medisystem policy and sign off afterwards.
- All staff will take part in Medi System training.
- Read all policy and procedure manuals and sign acknowledgments - Policies and Procedures Manual, Health and Safety Manual, Fire and Emergency Manual upon hire and annually.
- Employees must provide proof of birth, address, education, professional qualifications, employment history, employment references and a current criminal record check and fingerprints at their own cost.
- Staff are hired on a 90- 180 day probationary period.
- Be alert and always awake during your shift and will not be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, prescribed narcotics or any other intoxicant.

**POSITION/ SCHEDULE**:

- Staff must work scheduled rotating shifts (including mornings, afternoons, overnight awake and holidays). P/T and F/T hours are not guaranteed.
- Overtime hours must be approved by the Assistant Executive Director or Staff Supervisor. Staff are not to exceed 88 hours biweekly.

Hiring one (1) Support Worker for the following shifts to start working immediately:
**7:00AM-1:00PM**

**5:00PM-9:00PM**

**Key Responsibilities**:
**1. Personal Care Assistance**
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Assist with incontinence care and ensure comfort and dignity during these tasks.
- Provide direction, queuing and assistance to residents in regards to personal care. This may include but is not limited to the following: bathing, peri care, nail trimming, hair trimming et al. **PSW/SW are prohibited from providing nail care to diabetic residents. Refer them to a healthcare worker.

**2. Meal Assistance and Nutrition**
- Serve meals that have been prepared by the main kitchen and ensure adherence to dietary restrictions or preferences. Staff are to direct the residents to the posted menu to ensure that they are in agreement to the food being served. If the resident does not want the meal they are permitted to decline and have a sandwich instead. The PSW will inform the chef prior.
- Monitor hydration and ensure clients are drinking enough fluids.
- Promote and educate residents to follow the Canadian Food Guide.

**3. Companionship, Emotional Support and Programming**:

- Offer companionship to residents, engaging in friendly conversation and activities.
- Provide emotional support, especially for residents experiencing mental health challenges or cognitive impairments.
- Encourage socialization and participation in leisure activities to improve mental and emotional well-being
- Act as a liaison for the resident and refer to alternative programs, or relevant community agencies outside of the facility when needed.
- To assist residents with finances under the direction of the Assistant Executive Director or Designate i.e., budgeting, room and board, clothing, entertainment, etc.
- Complete referrals to community partners and arrange appointments for residents as required.

4. **Health and Wellness Monitoring**
- Monitor and report any changes in the residents health or physical condition (e.g., swelling, skin issues, mobility changes).
- Report significant changes in health status, such as signs of infection, weight loss, or discomfort, to the Staff Supervisor.
- Assist residents in identifying and solving the practical problems that are resident focused.

**5. Housekeeping and Light Domestic Support**
- Perform light housekeeping duties, such as cleaning, laundry, and tidying the residents living space.
- Ensure the residents living environment is safe and comfortable, assisting with organizing personal items and preventing clutter. Ie. Completing laundry on their scheduled day and supporting the
