Are you an individual who is a self-starter, with a passion for working with a growing non-profit organization that supports Indigenous peoples experiencing homelessness? The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society (ACEHS) seeks an Indigenous **Community Justice Navigator **to support our community-based justice program.

The Community Navigator and Housing Transitions Support role will support First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples in navigating the Criminal Justice System, working collaboratively with community service partners, to support the creation of a Housing Transitions Justice Model.

**Position Type**: Part-time Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
**Wage**: $28.00-$29.97 per hour based on experience.
**Location**:736 Broughton Street, Victoria B.C.

**Community** **Navigator** **Support** **(2** **days** **per** **week)**
- Collaborate with the YEKAUTW_ program team to ensure that the family members in the criminal justice system receive advocacy support by working directly with the Indigenous Community Justice Manager.
- Develop one (1) land-based healing event per fiscal year, dependent on budget.
- Facilitate four focus groups at 1 per quarter (July, Sept, Dec, Feb). Developing a work plan each quarter that outlines the anticipated outcomes, ensuring programming is based on the Indigenous season's calendar.
- Create a plan for establishing a contingency fund for incarcerated individuals and preparing for release.
- Complete a quarterly report addressing the outcomes and how the Family Members’ needs are being met through the Justice Program.

**Housing** **Navigator** **Support** **(1** **day** **per** **week)**
- Develop housing and resource information for those currently incarcerated.
- Complete a report outlining what currently exists and is missing for those reintegrating into the community post-incarceration.
- Connect with organizations with existing resources related to housing those navigating the justice system (examples include John Howard Society and Manchester).
- Collaborate with the Housing Transitions Manager regarding referral processes and for support with the development of the housing transitions process for those involved with the criminal justice system.
- Complete a report outlining the successes of family members who have been housed through the collaboration of the transition housing and the YEKAUTW_ programs.

**Required Qualifications**
- Minimum 2 years' experience in administrative/human services work.
- Experience working within or navigating the provincial court system.
- Experience or personal insights working cooperatively with people with disabilities, lived experience, and addictions are considered assets.
- Experience working with non-profit organizations, family support, social services, and Indigenous support services and programs considered an asset.
- Required to consent to the Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check for Working with Vulnerable Adults.
- This position requires a valid driver's license and access to a working vehicle.
- Preferred Naloxone Overdose Training and Certification.
- Preferred Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.

- Ability to publicly speak at community events and venues.
- Progressive understanding of persistent mental illness, addictions, and other challenges and how these impact people's overall health, well-being, and quality of life.
- Ability to work holistically, professionally, and non-judgmentally as you work with a broad range of personalities, needs, cultures, lived experiences, and abilities.
- Ability to effectively respond and adjust to unexpected events, assess high-risk situations, problem-solve, provide crisis intervention, and manage conflict in a culturally supportive manner.
- Ability to work independently and effectively respond to and manage competing demands while adhering to deadlines within a fast-paced
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Demonstrated ability to listen, ask clarifying questions, and implement resolution skills.
- Able to produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence structure.
- Understanding of the intergenerational trauma that occurs because of colonization, Residential Schools, Sixties Scoop, and other oppressive systems, as well as the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
- Ability to work holistically, professionally, and non-judgmentally as you work with a broad range of personalities, needs, cultures, lived experiences, and abilities.
