The Specialist, IT Operations Technical will aid in the continued evolution of the infrastructure hardware and software ensuring supportability, scalability, robustness, and performance within Ontario Health’s state of the art infrastructure. The incumbent will act as a member of the team across varied technologies providing software and hardware life cycle management. This role is responsible for providing 7 x 24 operational support in a highly available, critical, and secure environment. This position interacts with project management, stakeholders, other technical teams and vendors to maintain a mission critical infrastructure.

Here is what you will be doing:- Manage multiple concurrent activities. Show effective judgment in prioritizing activities and time allocation.-
- Participate in deployments, hardware and software upgrades and patching on a regular basis.- Share knowledge and expertise with other team members. Provide support to peers where required. Perform day to day support and maintenance for multiple data centers.- Cooperate across team and division boundaries when requested to resolve problems and to support initiatives.- Using a variety of tools and techniques for anticipating, recognizing, and resolving technical, operational or process problems.- Monitor system indicators to ensure they don’t reach a critical level resulting in outages by determining proper operational thresholds and appropriate levels of escalation-
- Troubleshoot technical problems in the absence of documented procedures and document resolution steps. Actively manage incidents to ensure compliance against measurable service within documented tolerances and service levels.- Analyze and investigate potential problems as described in incident management tickets to determine root cause, take the necessary resolution action, or escalate as necessary.- Perform primary ticket triage for all support service requests- Ability to analyze technical information to determine risk levels and technical feasibility when making changes, consulting with a Senior Specialist or Lead for complex changes when required.- Identify opportunities to automate routine tasks that can be optimized using tools such as Ansible or shell scripting- Perform other related duties as assigned by the manager

Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience- University Degree or diploma ideally in computer science or engineering or equivalent experience- 5 - 7 years of technical support experience in complex IT environment.

Knowledge and Skills- Good oral and written communications and presentation skills- Experience using tools and techniques for managing changes, incidents, and problems (BMC Remedy or similar tool). Consulting with a Lead or Senior Specialist to review statistical trends during incident and problem investigations.- Good time management and organizational skills- Very good problem-solving abilities and techniques- ITIL certification V3 and/or V4 Foundation preferred- Managing services in a 7 x 24 high availability environment- Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for working with individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner- Ability to work to aggressive and critical timelines- Ability to analyze technical information to determine risk levels and technical feasibility. Consulting with a Senior Specialist or Lead when necessary.- Relevant technology certifications would be an asset- Ability to create clear and concise build, operational and knowledge base documentation- A good working knowledge of High Availability solutions & Disaster Recovery Strategies- Experience in the area of physical and virtual server installation and provisioning- Have a good understanding of system security best practices with regards to hardening and Operating System patching.- A working knowledge of storage, SAN and advanced data protection technologies especially as they relate to EMC VMax and PowerMax SANs- Experience with backup methodologies- Clustering technology experience- A working knowledge of database concepts and technologies as they relate to your area of responsibility, for example Microsoft Server Cluster or Oracle RAC- A good working knowledge of network technologies- Experience with DHCP, SFTP, SSH, SMTP and SNMP

Unix Team- Experience supporting Oracle hardware, including Supercluster, T5, T7, T8, X5, X6, X7 and X8 servers as well as ZFS appliances- Experience supporting Red Hat Linux, including RHEL 6, 7 & 8 as well as the configuration and maintenance of Red Hat Satellite- Experience supporting Oracle virtualization technologies, specifically Oracle LDOM/OVM & Zones- Experience supporting Linux and Unix filesystems such as ZFS, QFS, UFS, SVM, XFS, NFS and EXT4- Scripting abilities would be an asset, including Bourne, Korn, Perl and Python- Automation experience utilizing Ansible and Puppet would be an asset- Experience
