The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) is accountable and responsible to the GoA, to Albertans, to their communities, and to industry for the protection of people, their property, and the environment from the effects of emergency events. Alberta relies on a decentralized “system” for managing the various types of emergency events that occur every year. The AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the co-ordination, collaboration and co-operation between all entities involved in prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities within this diverse system.

The Recovery Branch assists private and public sector applicants recover from disasters by providing financial assistance for uninsurable losses. Disaster financial assistance programs can have multi-million-dollar budgets and serve thousands of Albertans. Recovery programs are managed in accordance with the Disaster Recovery Regulation, the Disaster Assistance Guidelines (DAG), and the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements (DFAA). Community Recovery Services team focuses on supports for communities, including individuals, small businesses and local authorities (municipalities and Metis Settlements).
Given the uncertainty in the scope, frequency and number of disaster events resulting in disaster recovery programs, the Recovery Coordinator/Team Lead fulfills a critical leadership role in the successful delivery of these programs.
**Responsibilities include**:
- Planning and managing the administration of programs (scope, stakeholders, risk, budget, schedule) and achieving expected outcomes of the team.
- Sustaining relationships with local authorities across assigned region through scheduled engagement and recovery coordination through disasters.
- Traveling to impacted communities as needed across the assigned region, a few times a year.
- Ability to work extended and irregular hours and/or shifts with mínimal or no notice.
