**Job Summary**:
To direct and co-ordinate the design, development, planning, delivery and evaluation of resident programs related to programs and services that re congruent with legislative and regulatory requirements, City and divisional policies and are consistent with evidence-based practice and research.

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Develops and implements detailed plans and recommends policies regarding program specific requirements.
- Manages, motivates and trains the unit's staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
- Supervises the day to day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work. Authorizes and controls vacation and overtime requests. Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
- Develops, recommends and administers the annual budget for the unit, and ensures that the unit's expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Researches and revises recreation, complementary care, social work and rehabilitation service delivery models based on new, emerging, evidenced-informed practices and acts as a change agent for programs & services in consultation with the Managers Resident Services.
- Develops and makes recommendations to the Director Resident Care & Services on standards, policies and procedures related to recreation, complementary care, rehabilitation, social work, volunteer services and spiritual & religious care based on current best practice and research-based information compliant with applicable legislation and regulation for Divisional implementation.
- Reviews and makes recommendations to the Director Resident Care & Services on Home-specific policy requests for amendments to the division's policies. Serves as a resource to the Managers Resident Services on the implementation and ongoing monitoring of new/revised policies.
- Builds capacity in the resident services unit acts as a resource to Managers Resident Services regarding all service delivery and practice issues that arise in the Homes.
- Provides leadership and direction to the Managers Resident Services and to Volunteer Coordinators.
- Designs creative programs, approaches, and protocols in the programs and services department, to respond to the need of a diverse resident population, with varying cognitive and functional need in collaboration with the Managers Resident Services and Coordinator Volunteer Services.
- Manages contracts and service agreements in spiritual & religious care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, music and art therapy services ensuring the Division's legal and financial interests are protected through ongoing monitoring of service delivery and expenditures. Ensures a fair and equitable access through the Request for Proposal/Quotation process.
- Provides advice to the Director Resident Care & Services regarding resident care & services issues and recommends changes based on trends in the internal and external environment.
- Maintains current knowledge of innovative principles in gerontology, quality improvement, recreation, rehabilitation, social work and volunteer services.
- Ensures resident centered focus is central to the interdisciplinary approach in resident care and service and volunteer programs.
- Assists in conducting reviews in all Homes in recreation, rehabilitation, therapy services, complementary care, social work, spiritual and religious care, volunteer programs and adult day programs to ensure compliance with Division's policies, Ministry of Long-Term Care legislature, and other applicable legislations and regulations. Identifies areas of non-compliance and risks and prepares reports for the Director Resident Care & Services.
- Supports Administrators in the recruitment, selection and orientation process for the Manager Resident Services position. Supports the Managers Resident Services in the recruitment, selection and orientation process for Coordinator Volunteer Services, recreation, social work, rehabilitation and complementary care position classifications.
