As an affiliate of the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the Louis Riel Institute (LRI) is responsible to the Métis people of Manitoba to provide programs, resources and services related to education and culture. The Louis Riel Institute seeks to fill one Lead Instructor - Indigenous Focused Early Childhood Education Program located in Winnipeg, MB.
**Instructor - Indigenous Focused Early Childhood Education Program**
Reporting to the Operations Manager of the Louis Riel Vocational College, the ECE Instructor is responsible for planning and implementing indigenous focused curriculum to students. The instructors establish daily classroom practices that include providing a safe learning environment for students, supporting the students in their learning and encouraging students to function as a team in the classroom.
The instructor establishes partnership with Child Care Centers to facilitate and support student’s practicum experiences. The Lead instructor works together with the LRVC team to create and maintain a full time and part time IFECE online program that allows students working full time to receive training. The Lead instructor is responsible for developing partnerships between funders, child care program, and
Educational committees related to the IFCEC Program. The Lead IFECE instructor regularly communicates and supports the team of IFECE instructors, scheduling regular in-services days that allow instructor to meet and plan curriculum and share professional development experiences.
- **Job Duties/Competencies**:_
- Organization, Planning and Administration
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional material to meet students’ varying needs, abilities, and interests.
- Select, order, and issue books, material, and supplies for courses or projects.
- Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
- Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems, or special academic interests.
- Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
- Arrange program observation opportunities.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
- Assist LRVC Director with CCQTC Compliance
- Networking with LRVC team members to develop and maintain on line IFECE programs.
- Networking with IFECE instructor for curriculum planning, course review and professional development.
- Instruction
- Deliver daily lessons to students and organize group work and projects
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs, abilities and interests.
- Prepare attendance and funders reports.
- Student Evaluation
- Assign and grade class work and homework.
- Observe and evaluate students’ work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement.
- Meet with students regularly to review assignments or discuss course materials that require attention.
- Reviews attendance or attendance issues and meets with students to discuss attendance or follows the necessary protocol in dealing with attendance issues.

- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.

- Observe students to determine qualifications, limitations, abilities, interests, and other individual characteristics.
- Review instructional content, methods, and student evaluations to assess strengths and weaknesses, work with students to develop a plan to be successful.
- Establish an atmosphere that promotes team building and teamwork in the classroom.
- Prepare students for further education by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
- Identify the developmental needs of students, and coaching, mentor, or otherwise help them to improve their knowledge or skills.
- **Skills and Qualifications**:_
- Must be a provincially certified (ECE III certificate or Degree in Developmental Studies)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Minimum of five years of experience working in child care
- Minimum of two years of experience supervising or managing a daycare
- Previous Instructional Experience
- Certificate (or enrolled) in Adult Education
- Knowledge of Métis culture
- Knowledge of LRVC programs and services
