**LABORATORY SUPERVISOR**

**Food Residue Department**

**1 FULL TIME Position Available**

The Laboratory Supervisor is directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of the extraction and instrumentation labs within Food Residue. Duties include administrative responsibilities, hands-on operation of MSMS instrumentation and data interpretation of results from MSMS analyses.

**The key responsibilities of the Lab Supervisor are**:

- Sound knowledge of MSMS instrumentation, including operation and maintenance and data interpretation
- Sound knowledge of chemical residue analysis in food, including regulatory criteria, such as Maximum Residue Limits
- Organize and direct staff and workflow within the group(s) to ensure samples are processed and reported according to due dates and client needs
- Develop and revise relevant SOP’s, WI’s and FCD’s
- Coordinate requests or recommend resource planning e.g. need for additional staff or equipment
- Elevate significant & complex resource issues to Manager
- Manage method development/validation and other projects to ensure timely completion
- Ensure compliance with Quality System and external accreditation requirements, SOP’s and WI’s within area(s) of responsibility
- Participate in and provide support during internal and external audits
- Initiate Non Systemic Corrective Action Reports and Corrective Action Reports; investigate and resolve based on root cause analysis
- Streamline LOB processes and procedures, ensure consistency and maximize efficiencies while maintaining a focus on quality, innovation and continuous improvement
- Lead and develop staff - including responsibility for recruitment/onboarding of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance & expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided
- Complete training documentation in timely manner and ensure training records are maintained for staff
- Handle performance, attendance management and progressive discipline (with input from management and HR)
- Participate in department health and safety objectives; where required, investigate and implement all resulting corrective actions
- All other responsibilities as assigned

**You are the ideal Lab Supervisor if you are/have**:

- B.Sc., technical diploma or equivalent experience
- 3 years of experience in laboratory environment of which 2 are at a leadership level
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Critical thinker, adaptable, fast learner and detail oriented
- Excellent leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Effective communication skills - written and verbal
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office
