The Manager, Access & Privacy is part of the Access & Privacy leadership team, responsible for fostering organization-wide relationships and collaborating to strengthen the Calgary Police Service's privacy management and access request program. This role also oversees the intake and processing of access requests, as well as the management of privacy breach notifications and investigations. Primary duties include:
- Lead the implementation of new privacy legislation within the unit.
- Assist the Director, Access & Privacy in developing and delivering privacy training for CPS members.
- Develop and execute an annual strategic business plan, establishing key performance metrics.
- Manage all human resources functions including performance management, workload assignment, workload balancing and workload efficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with legislated timelines while supporting employees in meeting performance targets.
- Provide training for new employees and facilitate professional development opportunities for current staff.
- Oversee budget management, including allocations for human resources, operational needs and training initiatives.
- Ensure that financial risks to the unit are mitigated.
**Qualifications**
- A degree in Social Sciences, Law, Communications, or a related field with a minimum of 10 years in progressively senior roles.
- A minimum of 3 years of formal leadership experience including supervising direct reports and providing advice to senior management.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- Working knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) legislation is preferred.
- Experience handling sensitive information in compliance with evolving legislation is also required.
- Information Access and Privacy (IAPP) Certification is an asset.
- Experience in a law enforcement or a legal environment is also considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires change management, leadership, managing resources, planning and prioritizing/visionary and strategic thinking. An effective communicator with the ability to build strong relationships.
**Pre-employment Requirements**
- An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.
