**Status**: Temporary full-time until July 21, 2025
**HOURS OF WORK**: Five days per week, 35 hours per week
**PURPOSE OF POSITION**: Special Events Coordinator is responsible for a variety of event and donor engagement related duties and will be working on our signature Hope in Every Step awareness walk and fundraiser.
**LOCATION**: Hybrid with at least three in-person days in Burlington
**POSITION REPORTS TO**: Manager, Community Engagement and Events
**RATE OF PAY**: $17.20/hr.
**ABOUT Halton Women’s Place**:
Halton Women’s Place provides a safe haven, information, and education to support a future without abuse for women and their children. We offer a wide range of community services and are the only women's shelter in the Region. Halton Women’s Place programs and services include the operation of our two emergency safe shelters in Milton and Burlington, our community outreach services, a 24/7 crisis line and online chat service, and our public education program, Learn to Love, which aims to end the cycle of abuse.
**Summary of Position**:
The goal is to organize impactful events that engages the community and raises awareness and funds.
**Eligibility**
- To be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age **at the beginning** of the employment period*
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ for the duration of the employment** **and**:
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
**Responsibilities**:
- Solicit walk participants and increase team and individual sign-ups for the Hope in Every Step walk in November.
- Develop ideas to improve the walker experience and contribute to the overall success of the event.
- Develop and create engaging social media content to promote the walk, with a focus on reaching and inspiring youth audiences to participate.
- Solicit auction and contest prizes for annual gala event.
- Answer donors, clients and sponsors inquiries about the event.
- Create schedules and attend meetings.
- Solving problems that may arise before or during event.
- Support Event Specialist with tasks and achieving event goals.
- Other duties as required.
- Some weekend hours may apply.
**Requirements**:
- Proven experience as a event coordinator
- A proven track record of organizing successful events.
- Proficient in MS Office
- Experience with online fundraising platforms is an asset.
- Excellent soliciting, fundraising and vendor management skills.
- Outstanding communication and negotiation ability
- Well-organized with multi-tasking skills
- Able to handle stress and remain calm.
- Problem-solving ability
- Background in hospitality or event management, public relations or relevant field is preferred.
**MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS**:
- Clear Police Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector, is required to secure and maintain employment.
- Verification of COVID vaccinations as mandated by the Ministry, is required to secure, and maintain employment.
- A clear reading on a Step one and/or two TB test is required to secure and maintain employment.
