**POSITION TITLE**:Developmental Service Worker - Summer Student

**POSITION PURPOSE**:This position is accountable to assist with the care, safety and security of the people we support and the monitoring of their daily routine.

**REPORTING TO**:Supported Living Manager

**TIME COMMITEMENT**:40 hours per week, days, weekends, evenings

**JOB DURATION**:3 months

**LOCATION**: Various locations throughout Burlington

**POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Facilitate and support the participation of the people we support in their community, neighbourhood and family activities and affairs

2. Provide leadership to the people we support to develop decision-making skills, exercise choices and assume reasonable risks

3. Understand of the unique needs and interest of each person we support especially as it pertains to identifying and addressing their recreational cultural and spiritual strengths and needs

4. Involve the people we support in appropriate age and cultural activities, engaged in/by their peers

5. Assist the people we support to develop personal competencies and valued social roles through the mutual established of individual support plans

6. Facilitate the people we support with their health needs including personal hygiene, assistance with meals, physical activity, nutrition monitoring and ensure appropriate and accurate documentation of such intervention and support

7. Accompany the people we support to medical dental and other professional appointments as required

8. Communicate effectively and professionally with the people we support, their families, co-workers and manager

9. Work with your team to coordinate tasks, share resources, plan, make decisions, solve conflicts to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly goals

10. Assist the people we support with the preparation of meals and ensure that the food preparation follows the Canada Food Guide

11. Foster relationships with and between the people we support

12. Assist the people we support to keep their finances in order and maintain

complete and confidential information on each person we support

13. Be open minded to learning new processes and proactively adapt and anticipate needs of the people we support

14. Participate in meetings, voicing concerns as well as suggestions for improvement

16. Adhere to all the polices procedures, practices expectations and standards as established by the association, including the health and safety policies and expectations

**QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS**:

- Applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 years (as per Canada Summer Jobs program)
- Must be flexible to work weekdays and weekends
- Enrolled in a University or College, Human Services Field such as

Developmental Service Worker or Social Service Worker
- First Aid/CPR
- A valid driver’s license
- Police clearance with vulnerable sector check
- Crisis Intervention (an asset)
- Be willing to learn on the job tasks to develop and improve skills

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Enrolled in a University or College, Human Services Field such as Developmental Service Worker or Social Service Worker

**SKILLS & ABILITIES**:

- Ability to work effectively as a team member and possesses initiative
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to set priorities and respond appropriately to difficult situations
- Capable of following through with direction
- Understand, respect and always take into account the needs and wishes of the people we support and their families

- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- On call
- Weekends as needed
