**Role Overview**

Umbrella is looking to add a casual Community Outreach Support Worker to our team This role will help support both our SURF and Encampment teams. As part of Island Health's overdose response planning, the Substance Use Rapid Follow Up (SURF) Team will provide quick follow-up for individuals who have overdosed but did not go to a hospital. The SURF Team serves as a transitional connector for those with moderate to severe substance use issues who have overdosed, providing intensive short-term outreach until individuals are connected to appropriate community services.

The Encampment Team work directly with unhoused individuals to offer community support and support Island Health’s overdose response planning. Partnering with BC Ambulance, Umbrella’s Community Outreach Support worker and an Island Health nurse will offer flexible, responsive community support.

**Responsibilities**

**SURF Team Responsibilities**:

- Engage with individuals and families affected by substance use and mental health issues to provide support and resources.
- Promote the well-being of vulnerable populations and the broader community by preventing harm associated with substance use.
- Create personalized care plans in collaboration with SURF Team clients and their families, providing responsive support..
- Ensure clients have access to health and social services, including housing, harm reduction, and recovery options, while providing culturally safe and appropriate services.
- Meeting with clients in community, driving to various locations within the city.
- Transporting clients to appointments.

**Encampment Team Responsibilites**:

- Advocate for the health and safety of vulnerable populations and the broader community by preventing harms associated with substance use.
- Assist clients in accessing health and social services, including housing, harm reduction, and recovery options, ensuring culturally safe and appropriate service provision.
- Partner with the SURF Team, CARES clients, Indigenous Outreach clients, IMCRT clients, and their families to deliver responsive support.
- Engage and strengthen relationships with community agencies, health services, bylaw officers, police, and social services to enhance support networks and service delivery.

**Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Other characteristics (KSAO)**:

- Experience in community outreach or social services is preferred.
- Strong preference will be given to applicants with lived experience in substance use disorders and recovery
- **Valid Class 5 Drivers license is required for all workers on the SURF team**:

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Familiarity with issues related to substance use, addiction, and mental health.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to work a variety of days, including weekends and holidays

**Job Types**: Part-time, Casual

Pay: From $26.50 per hour
