Are you a person who is passionate about working with Indigenous Peoples experiencing homelessness and is interested in providing culturally supportive and safe models of care? The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society (ACEH) is seeking an Outreach Team Member to work with the Indigenous Street Community providing support, advocacy, resources, and referrals. The Outreach Worker will also assist individuals who are transitioning into culturally supportive housing.

**Position Type**: Full time.
**Wage**: $24.00 per hour based on experience.
**About the Role**:
- BC Housing - park outreach
- Identify and build relationships with members of the Indigenous Street Community (ISC) that would benefit from ACEH programming and services, such as land-based healing camps, ACEH Housing, and the Indigenous Alcohol Harm Reduction (IAHR) Program.
- Respond to the direction from BC Housing regarding supporting individuals living in the encampments.
- May be assigned to ISC members for continued individual follow-up and support.
- Liaise with the Housing Transitions Advocate, acting as a bridge in communication between intake and transitioning individuals into housing.
- May require transitioning individuals to and from treatment.
- Will require actions to meet individuals emergent and basic needs.
- Provide support to the ISC to be able to access and participate in land-based healing camps, may require attendance at some of the camps to provide support.
- Participate in Outreach Meetings including case management meetings.
- Supports ACEH programming, surveys, and gathering data
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience or personal insights into working cooperatively and non
- judgmentally with people with disabilities, lived experience, addictions, etc. is required
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and an awareness of the impacts of colonization is required
- Experience working with non-profit organizations, family support, social services, and/or chronic homelessness is considered an asset
- Preference may be given to those with experience coordinating events and community events.
Skills & Abilities
- Progressive understanding of persistent mental illness, addictions, and other challenges and how these impact people’s overall health, well-being, and quality of life
- Ability to work in a holistic, professional, and non-judgmental manner as you are working with a broad range of personalities, needs, cultures, lived experiences and abilities
- Ability to effectively respond and adjust to unexpected events, assess high risk situations, problem-solve, provide crisis intervention, and manage conflict in a culturally supportive manner
- Ability to work independently and effectively respond to and manage competing demands while adhering to deadlines within a fast-paced environment
- Effective written, electronic, and verbal communication skills to facilitate interprofessional collaborative practice, healthy and culturally safe environments, and a respectful workplace for community members, staff, guests and volunteers
- Sound understanding of the intergenerational trauma that occurs as a result of colonization, Residential Schools, Sixties Scoop, and other oppressive systems as well as the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada
- Current First Aid and CPR certification are required
- Possession of valid Class 5 Driver's License required.

Being the sole organization focused on ending Indigenous homelessness on Vancouver Island, the work of the ACEH is critical.
