**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Nursing, Surgical Mission, the Clinical-Administrative Coordinator* for this mission, acts as a leader in promoting excellence in clinical practice through the acquisition and effective utilization of clinical and financial resources, as well as the promotion of education and research for all surgical unit services and programs within the mission.
The incumbent assumes responsibility for all nursing staff, in addition to all nursing activities and resources of the surgical mission. The incumbent shares responsibility with the Assistant Director, in co-management with the Medical Chief of Surgery, for directing services and evaluating standards of care provided, improving the delivery and quality of care for the mission.
The incumbent participates with other MUHC professionals in strategic planning related to nursing. As well, the incumbent is actively involved in the advancement of nursing care and enhances the surgical mission of the MUHC, including the development of effective relationships with professional organizations, community groups and other health care institutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contributes to the definition and updating of the mission, management philosophy and values of the surgical mission, consistent with those of the institution.
- Contributes to the development, implementation and evaluation of the overall direction, goals, priorities and strategies of the surgical mission services.
- Assumes responsibility for the management of the services under his/her responsibility and defines their role, objectives and priorities.
- Recommends to the appropriate authorities the operational structure and staffing plan of the services under his/her responsibility within the framework of the allocated budget.
- Ensures the planning and distribution of work according to the clientele in a perspective of effectiveness, efficiency and improvement of the quality of services offered.
- Plans the budget for his/her sector according to the resources allocated to him/her, monitors it periodically, justifies any variances and proposes solutions to ensure a balanced budget, if necessary.
- Ensures the participation, motivation, enhancement and maintenance of the skills and development of human resources in the departments under his/her responsibility.
- Chairs or participates in committees related to his/her field of expertise with other departments and branches as well as with other institutions in the network.
- Carries out any other related duties and mandates at the request of his/her immediate superior.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides leadership to promote excellence in clinical practice through the acquisition and effective utilization of clinical, educational, financial, and research resources for all mission surgical programs and clinical services.
- Participates with management to develop a budget and performance monitoring strategy.
- Ensures the effective management of financial, human, material and informational resources under his/her responsibility.
- Supervises the nursing unit managers who are responsible for forecasting, monitoring and controlling the material, human and financial resources required for the mission's clinical programs and services.
- Plans services with relevant stakeholders and collaborators and develops a comprehensive recruitment and retention plan.
- Ensures the safety of the mission's work environment and that appropriate health and safety measures are in place for clients, their families and staff.
