The Utility 2 is responsible for the completion of tasks associated with cemetery operations including but not limited to: interments, disinterments and cemetery grounds maintenance operations.

Under the general supervision of the Operations Foreman, Equipment Operator 4, and/or Leading Cemetery Groundsperson, the Utility 2 will complete assigned tasks and duties, using own judgment and problem-solving skills.

The Utility 2 is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of vehicles, equipment, attachments and hand and power tools as required in performing cemetery operations.

The Utility 2 is expected to work cooperatively in a team environment to ensure all tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner, assisting, guiding and/or supporting students or new employees in learning cemetery operations. They will ensure public and co-worker safety through observing and supporting organizational safety, health and wellness processes and provides suggestions for improvements to processes. As well as, provide assistance to, and answer general enquiries from clients in the cemetery grounds, directing them to the Brookside Administration Office if necessary.

The Utility 2 will act in the Leading Cemetery Groundsperson (U4) or Equipment Operator 4 positions when required.

**As the **_Utility 2 - Cemetery Groundsperson,_**_ _**you will**:

- Operate and maintain equipment and attachments, as required to perform interments and disinterments and all cemetery grounds maintenance tasks, including transporting co-workers and materials to various cemetery locations.
- Communicate effectively both in writing and orally, using tact, understanding, diplomacy, and observing strict confidentiality.
- Actively promote high quality customer service and supports a culture of personal and organizational safety, health and wellness.
- Work in a crew or alone, complete manual tasks related to cemetery operations as required and to ensure processes are not left incomplete.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- Two (2) seasons experience of working on cemetery operational tasks.
- Experience in the operation in confined areas, and day-to-day inspection and maintenance of ride-on-mowers and attachments.
- Experience in the safe operation of hand and power tools.
- Basic knowledge of cemetery functions and operations.
- Must be familiar with safety regulations and procedures in general and any specifically related to cemeteries work.
- Basic understanding of Health and Safety Workplace Regulations requirements as they relate to the employee and employer.
- Fully skilled in the operation of day-to-day adjustment and servicing of riding mowers.
- Commitment to providing a high-quality customer service.
- Ability to understand, execute and communicate oral and written instructions and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public and colleagues.
- Ability to work in a team, willing to share ideas and support colleagues.
- Ability to use computers and other technical equipment necessary to perform the duties of the position.

**Conditions of employment**:

- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License.
- Must possess and maintain a St. John’s Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate or equivalent, or willingness and ability to obtain, within three (3) months.
- Must be willing to perform stand-by or overtime duties as required by the Department, including weekdays and weekends.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including the ability to lift weights in excess of 50 lbs. and working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
