**ABOUT THE ROLE**

Are you an experienced professional with commercial management, business development, contract review, customer/partner engagement or negotiations experience? If this sounds like you, then this is the role for you We are looking to hire a highly ambitious Commercial Specialist to be part of our TransAlta team.

Reporting to the Manager, Commercial you will play a key role in providing commercial support for TransAlta’s North America business. This includes building commercial relationships with external customers and partners, internal stakeholders, contract management and evaluation, and negotiating and executing business opportunities that maximize the value of TransAlta’s assets.

This role is based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

**WHAT YOU WILL DO**
- Overseeing key customer relationships, collaboration with operations, corporate groups and external stakeholders to ensure TransAlta's investment in its assets achieve superior returns over the life of the facilities.
- Build and leverage effective working relationships across the organization to develop, implement and optimize opportunities while mitigating risks.
- Act as the ambassador for customers, acting as a champion and liaison to operations and other key internal teams, to ensure competitive operating decisions
- Work with management team to evaluate business options and form commercial recommendations
- Securing and protecting existing commercial revenues and seeking opportunities to expand revenue with existing customers and assets.
- Execute commercial negotiations - including amendments and renewals with existing customers as required, having developed and presented business cases to leadership to gain mandate approval and support.
- Developing strategies and plans and implementing actions to resolve commercial issues or disputes, escalating to leadership as required
- Ensuring customer invoicing is aligned with commercial contracts and is compliant with SOX requirements.
- Annual commercial budget assumptions as it relates to existing customers and assets.
- Communicate and coordinate market and financial modeling results to internal stakeholders
- Understand and evaluate fleet impacts resulting from power market changes.
- Due diligence review of potential acquisitions, and leadership of commercial integration activities for new assets as they join the TransAlta fleet.

**WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU**
- Post-secondary education in business, finance, economics or engineering preferred, with an ability to see the big picture
- 6+ years of commercial management, business development, contract review, customer/partner engagement or negotiations experience, or similar
- High ambition and demonstrated drive for continuous improvement with an execution mindset and track record
- Understanding in developing and presenting business cases
- Expert in deal creation, negotiating, contractual management and relationship building
- Energy industry experience and/or business development or contract management expertise
- Functional knowledge of power markets, gas markets and energy market fundamentals
- Understands and adheres to TransAlta policies, procedures, standards, and applicable regulatory and legal requirements as pertains to the assets’ operation in various regions
