**Specialist, Jays Care Programs**

Specialists on the Jays Care Programs team are tasked with supporting a wide range of projects that are all designed to help level the playing field. Our work enables us to work with and support communities facing a wide range of barriers including, but not limited to: poverty, food insecurity, inaccessibility, ableism, racism, sexism, and homophobia. Every project we devote time, funding and energy to has been well-researched, informed by our wide range of advisors, and is designed specifically to break down barriers and fortify strengths for children and youth. Jays Care is looking for a passionate and dynamic specialist who will focus their energy primarily on the following three initiatives:

- Challenger Baseball programs
- Affiliate School and Community Partner programs
- In-stadium initiatives

In addition, the specialists can expect to be assigned to support a wide range of projects including, but not limited to:

- Jays Care summer day camps
- Indigenous Rookie League programs
- LIT Girls virtual programs
- James Bay Girls At Bat programs
- RBI programs
- Wrap-around support initiatives

**Type of role**: 1 year contract

**Reporting to**: Senior Manager, Programs

**Jays Care Program Specialists are highly skilled at**:
**EXPERT FACILITATION**
- Planning, executing and assessing high-quality training workshops for youth and adults
- Using the most up-to date research and learning to craft content and resources
- Facilitating workshops and program content that is wildly engaging, inclusive and accessible for all participants
- Creating workshop and program spaces that are welcoming, inclusive and barrier free

**RECEIVING/**
**DELIVERING FEEDBACK**
- Utilizing feedback and building it in to their development and goals
- Using a standardized format for providing constructive feedback to others
- Actively scheduling opportunities for debriefing, discussion and feedback
- Seeing conflict as an opportunity for transformation and growth

- Oral and written communication
- Solving problems with optimism and creativity

**USING BASEBALL FOR DEVELOPMENT**
- Demonstrating high confidence with the rules, terminology and fundamentals of baseball/softball
- Coaching baseball fundamentals
- Adapting baseball drills and skills for a wide range of variations
- Adapting activities to focus on a range of outcomes

**DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Social Work, Kinesiology, Equity Studies, or related field i.e. human services, health or education
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- 2+ years working with children and/or youth living in historically marginalized communities
- 2+ years designing and implementing sport-based programs
- 1+ years leading trainings/workshops for adults
- Good demonstration of problem-solving skills and ability to work in a group
