Summer Child & Youth Counsellor

**Position**: 1 CYC Position to Co-facilitate Camp (Unicorn Club) with ROCK

**Description of Camp**:
The Unicorn Club is a social skills group for trans and gender diverse children aged 7-12. This is an affirming space where participants have the opportunity to engage with peers in their community and see their own experiences and identities reflected in supportive peer relationships. Participants will use this time to build the necessary social skills to support overall resilience, mental health and wellbeing, as well as positive connections to community. Participants will engage with topics such as self love and wellness, building healthy friendships, navigating bullying and age appropriate introductions to 2SLGBTQIA+ language as it relates to their own experiences.

**Dates**: July 22-26 from 9-4 pm

**Location**: Burlington

**Requirements**:
Identify as a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Be willing and able to swim with students

**Key Responsibilities**:
Co-facilitate the Unicorn Club with ROCK partner

Provide comprehensive, culturally responsive, identify affirming support to students

Maintain Child and Youth Counsellor Standards of Practice for record keeping and service delivery as per HDSB

Child and Youth Counsellors will provide service in accordance with the OACYC Code of Ethics

**Qualifications**:
The minimum education required for this position is a 3 year, Child and Youth Counsellor diploma

Current membership with The Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors is considered

Current ASK and BMS training

**Knowledge**:
Demonstrated knowledge and experience providing group support and strategies to promote and support student well-being

Demonstrated experience leading/initiating student learning related to student well-being Fluid use of asset-based language

**Appointments are conditional upon**:
Provision of an original copy of a criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening dated within 6 months

Agreement to comply with the Board’s policies, procedures and code of conduct
