The Clinical Manager in the Forensic Psychiatry Program is an innovative and self directed, results-oriented professional who demonstrates a creative and collaborative management style and provides leadership to assigned area(s) responsibility, including a combination of the following areas of responsbility:
Inpatient Forensic Psychiatry Assessment Unit which receives from the Court person's ordered for an assessment of fitness to stand trial and/or criminal responsibility. Patients referred to this service have committed an offense contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and are 'in custody' for the period of the Court ordered assessment (usually 30, 60 or 90 days). Patients are often treatment naïve or have been without approriate treatment for a period of time prior to admission to the Assessment Unit. In addition to the normal duties of an inpatient unit, the Manager is responsible for ensuring the containment of the patient, ensuring public safety, ensuring that risk is minimized and for overseeing the operational components of the legal processes.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Forensic Units which receives patients from the Court, Jails,Detention Centres or the Ontario Review Board (ORB) who have been found not Criminally Responsible (NCR) due to mental illness or Unfit to Stand Trial for their index offense(s). Patients on this unit are all under the ORB which orders the terms and conditions of their dispositions. Patients coming to these units are not deemed safe to be in a less restrictive environment and often, at least initially, pose significant risk to others or to themselves due to their mental illness. In addition to the normal duties of an inpatient unit, the Manager is responsible for ensureing public safety, ensuring that risk is minimized and for overseeing the operational components of the legal processes.

ORB Community is the outpatient service connected to Forensic Psychiatry Program which provides outpatient care to up to 120 high risk outpatients. The patients have community living privileges under specific terms and conditions as ordered by the ORB.

Outreach Services which include alternate care pathways (OTN services), concurrent disorders clinic, risk aggression clinic, sexual behaviours clinic and medical-legal clinic.the NurseManager also oversees an aniinovative traditional housing project designed for forensic patients and operated in partnership with a community agency.

The Clinical Manager is responsible for the overall management of the human and fiscal resources required to meet the patient care needs for assigned areas, as well, as for the integration of quality and other patient safety initiatives within the portfolio. The Manager takes an active role in strategic planning, program development, volume management and quality monitoring. The Manager promotes the integration and ongoing advancement of standards and best practices. As a leader, the Manager provides, facilitates and promotes the best possible professional service to the patients and employees of these units, as well as to the organization and community

The Clinical Manager is accountable to the Clinical Director, Forensic Psychiatry Program. The Manager assumes responsibility for the designated areas as assigned. The Manager is accountable for the hiring and effective management of all direct report staff and for financially managing the cost centres for assigned units. In collaboration with the Nurse Educator and the Research Coordinator, the Clinical Manager facilitates educational activities on the unit and research throughout the Forensic Psychiatry Program.

The Forensic Psychiatry Program is a Provincial Program and the Clinical Manager is also responsible for participating, as required, on provincial projects, intitiatives and meetings.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelors Degree in a health related discipline required
- Masters Degree in Health Administration or other health related field preferred
- Current registration in a regulated health care profession such as Nursing is required
- Minimum 3 years of progressive leadership experience in a mental health/addictions and/or forensic mental health setting
- Knowledge of the mental health/addictions and forensic systems and the care of persons suffering from mental illness and addictions
- Knowledge of and commitment to principles of recovery
