Lethbridge, Canada The Southern Alberta Self-Help Association Full time

**SASHA Supportive Living** has an opening for a **Group Home Worker**. This is a temporary full-time summer employment position starting in **May 2025**.

The position is funded through a grant from _Canada Summer Jobs_ and is available to a Canadian Citizen, resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_. The prospective employee must be between 18 and 30 years of age and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulation.

**WAGE**: 16.50/hour **Hours**: 35 hours/week for 8 weeks.

**Duties**:
Activity Support:

- Organize, conduct and facilitate small groups, games and activities
- Plan organization annual BBQ’s
- Plan one on one activities for clients who may not be able to participate in groups
- Encourage clients to engage in physical activity by facilitating exercise groups
- Provide transportation to and from activities where appropriate (vehicle provided)
- Interact in a warm and professional manner, maintaining positive relationships
- Build relationships in the community seeking opportunities for clients to engage in supportive activities
- Assist with weekly client house meetings and participate in staff team meetings

Food Support:

- Support clients in preparation of breakfast and lunch
- Increase client skills around food preparation and nutrition habits
- Support client’s knowledge and understanding of food safety

Treatment Support:

- Develop a therapeutic rapport with clients supporting positive client interactions
- Support clients to achieve their Individual Service Plan (ISP) goals
- Assist in client chores and daily living skills
- Report client related concerns and progress to client support staff and document if necessary
- Maintain personal and professional boundaries with clients

Administrative Support:

- Keep accurate records and ensure documentation in client files, progress reports, interviews and cash records
- Maintain regular communication with Program Supervisor on matters affecting clients’ wellbeing and in the general operations
- Comply with SASHA policies and procedures

Other Duties:

- Build and maintain knowledge of community resources and referral pathways
- Attend monthly team meetings
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- Related education or experience in a related field (i.e., counselling, psychology, social work, nursing, addictions, public health)
- Between the ages of 18-30 (current enrollment in a post-secondary program is preferred)
- Ability to work independently, cooperatively, and constructively within a team environment
- Excellent time management skills
- Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Knowledge and understanding of the population served
- Knowledge of major mental illness’, addictions, and concurrent disorders
- Willingness to adapt to program and client needs
- A valid class 5 Driver’s license and clean 3-year drivers abstract
- Current criminal record and vulnerable sector check prior to start date
- Ability to positively represent the organization

**The Southern Alberta Self-Help Association (SASHA)** supports adults with severe and/or persistent mental illness to achieve success through a continuum of supportive living options and individualized services. We operate 4 group homes in Lethbridge and support clients living in the community. SASHA supports clients to become contributing members of our community. We help prepare them, often recently discharged from the hospital, to re-integrate into the community.
