Ottawa Biosphere Eco-City (OBEC) is a locally-based, grassroots registered charity in Ottawa. Our vision is for an environmentally sustainable City that supports a high quality of life, now and for future generations.Our mission is to achieve sustainability in partnership with our stakeholders by sharing ideas, knowledge, and experience. OBEC strives to complete this vision and mission through our Community Sustainability Plan (CSP) workshops and implementation, sustainability themed community workshops, our sustainability database of projects and resources, and our partner projects with various ENGOs in the Ottawa Region.

SUMMARY OF ROLE:
The Sustainability Intern will work under the guidance of and report to the Program Coordinator and OBEC’s Board of Directors. They will also be provided a Mentor through Eco-Internships to help guide them throughout the internship

The intern will be assisting in the management and implementation of many of OBEC's projects including helping plan and facilitate the Community Sustainability Plans (CSPs) workshop and projects. They will be working with partner organizations across the community to help facilitate CSPs. They will also help in implementing projects from the CSPs.

There is also a large digital component to the internship. The intern will help in the creation and management of OBEC’s digital engagement strategy. They will assist in the creation and scheduling of OBEC's sustainability education social media content, in the updating and managing of OBEC's website and in putting together the quarterly newsletter. They will also help manage OBEC's Sustainability Database, by ensuring it is updated with the latest sustainability projects and resources in Ottawa.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist in the creation, facilitation and planning of Community Sustainability Plan (CSP) Workshops and Projects
- Set-up and facilitate of meetings and consultations with community organizations and groups
- Coordinate with partner organization(s) and community networks to support and promote CSPs
- Explain roles, timelines and tasks of CSP programming to members and volunteers
- Conduct evaluation of CSPs through participant surveys and consultations and create report of results
- Support the development and implementation of CSP projects by checking in with project leads about goals and resource needs, advising on evaluation criteria, volunteer needs and project planning, liaising with community partners, and setting up and facilitating focus groups for CSP projects
- Assist in the creation, management and scheduling of sustainability education content on all of OBEC’s social media platform
- Assist in the management and updating of OBEC’s digital Sustainability Database
- Facilitate Zoom meetings and workshops for community members and partners
- Provide administrative support for the organization, including program and operations support
- Perform other duties as necessary

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

- Strong knowledge of community organizing and engagement
- Strong knowledge of community sustainability planning
- Strong knowledge and skills in project coordination, management, implementation
- Strong workshop/event coordination and planning skills
- Communication Writing: report writing, public speaking/presenting, facilitation
- Knowledge of database management and data entry

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months

**Salary**: $20.00 per hour

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
