Children's Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre is a world-class hospital with the latest technology and the best specialists, scientists and health professionals in Canada. As a regional referral centre, we provide specialized paediatric inpatient and outpatient services to children in Southwestern Ontario from birth through to age 18. Health care professionals, parents and families from all over the region count on the specialized expertise and care offered at Children’s Hospital. From life-saving liver and bowel transplants to state-of-the-art oncology and infectious disease programs, trauma and intensive care, Children’s Hospital provides the finest paediatric care available.
Our hospital, staff and physicians are committed to patient and family-centred care and are recognized for providing specialized services and a multi-disciplinary approach to the care of children and their families. Serving a population of 1.5 million, with over 400,000 children, Children’s Hospital is a major centre for medical research. It also serves as a teaching hospital for physicians, nurses and other health professionals, and has an active continuing medical education program.
The Children's Emergency Department is a 21 bed unit that provides specialized paediatric health care to patients from birth to 17 years of age. We specialize in meeting the unique needs of children and families during medical emergencies. Our goal is to provide the highest level of care and caring during an unplanned and often stressful experience. We assist patients with a wide variety of health needs, ranging from minor accidents and ailments to life threatening trauma and illness. We care for approximately 36 000 children per year and serve as the Regional Paediatric Trauma Centre. The Children's Emergency department is also a teaching facility. We provide education as well as practical clinical experience to medical professionals at all levels of training. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
The Children's Emergency Department team includes Physicians, Registered nurses, Respiratory therapists, Child Life Specialists, Social workers, Patient support workers, Environmental support workers, Registration clerks. However, this role will oversee the RNs, PSWs and clerical employee groups.
**Job Summary**:
**What the Role is**
Reporting to the Director, PCCU, NICU, Transport Team and Children’s Emergency Department, the Manager, Clinical - Children's Emergency Department, directs, controls and evaluates the delivery of department services. They are responsible for translating decisions of the program leadership into execution, by utilizing relationship management and working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the necessary outcomes. The Manager ensures their team and department operations are aligned with our mission, vision and values, while working together to successfully achieve our strategic objectives.
This role is accountable for day-to-day department activities, including the management of human and material resources, day-to-day staffing and scheduling, development and support of a healthy workplace, risk and utilization measurements, and facilitation of improvement initiatives and change management, while operating within approved operational budgets and financial guidelines and controls. A major focus of the role is fostering effective working relationships and networks within the team/unit and with other teams across the organization.
NOTE: this role is required to be on-call, evenings and weekends on a rotational basis
