**About us**

Safer Ocean Systems Ltd. is a Transport Canada Approved Marine Training school. We offer training which is required for people working or entering the maritime industry.

We have locations in Nanaimo and Vancouver and offer some courses remotely via an online LMS program.

**Safer Ocean Systems Ltd. is looking for a Marine Safety Instructor to join our team in both Nanaimo and Vancouver, BC**

As a Marine Safety Instructor with Safer Ocean Systems Ltd., you will be teaching Transport Canada Approved courses and programs for students working in the Maritime/Boating Industry.

**Skills**:

- **Commercial Master or Mate Certification with Transport Canada **(or international equivalent)
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong Public Speaking Skills
- Ability to patiently and clearly explain complicated theories.
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Passionate about the maritime industry and boating safety and helping students succeed.
- Must be available Monday-Friday from 8 am-5 pm for periods of at least 2. We are happy to work around at-sea contracts (for example: 1 month on, 2 months off). Must be able to commit to at least 12 weeks of work each school year, in periods of at least 2 weeks in length.

**Responsibilities**:

- Maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
- Teaching Maritime courses, following our approved curriculum.
- Courses include Small Vessel Operator, Marine Emergency Duties (Domestic and STCW), Chartwork and Pilotage, Navigation Safety, Ship Stability and Construction, Simulated Electronic Navigation, and more
- Reviewing and marking assignments and homework.
- Marking exams and keeping detailed records of student results.
- Provide support to students of all age groups, backgrounds, and educational abilities.

**Job Type**: Casual

**Salary**: $37.50-$56.25 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Nanaimo, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Commercial Boating: 2 years (required)

Licence/Certification:

- Transport Canada Certification as Master or Mate (required)
