**What do we do?**
Bartek manufactures Malic and Fumaric acid and high purity Maleic Anhydride at their plants located in Stoney Creek, Ontario. We are a food grade manufacturer and global distributor of our products.

**What are we looking for?**
The QC Chemical Lab Technician will possess a positive attitude, and demonstrate core values including integrity, trust, respect and responsibility. This role requires relevant lab experience in a production setting and flexibility with regards to shifts (8 hours, 12 hours, days, nights, weekends, holidays) in order to satisfy our customer requirements. The Operator Trainee reports to the Quality Manager. As the QC Chemical Lab Technician, you will conduct in-process testing of WIP (work in process) to ensure the manufacturing process is on target to produce on-spec finished product. You will conduct tests on finished product and are responsible for the positive release of all finished goods. You will be responsible for sampling and testing in accordance with a pre-determined schedule. You will act as a liaison with the Control Room and Supervisory Team to report results in real time, so that any necessary adjustments can be made to prevent off-spec finished product from being produced.

**Position Description**:

- Chemical Lab Technicians work 12-hour days on a 2-week rotating schedule of days, afternoons, or nights.
- Sample and test WIP on a pre-determined schedule
- Communicate with Production team so that off-spec results can be actioned and corrected in real time
- Sample and test finished product on a pre-determined schedule
- Conduct laboratory testing in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
- Laboratory testing includes: Sieve analysis, HPLC, Karl Fisher Moisture, titrations
- Report results in computer database
- Proactively re-sample and re-test when test results are out of spec, and/or questionable
- Record results in lab database and complete laboratory records as required
- Generate Certificates of Analysis for customer shipments
- Maintain laboratory, clean work area and respect equipment
- Pro-actively support production team to ensure in-process targets are achieved
- Conduct inspection rounds of the packaging line to monitor the quality of the packaged product (ie: stacking quality, bag identification, labeling, pallet quality, etc.).
- Self-motivation and ability to work in an environment without direct supervision for extended periods of time
- Ability to act in accordance with Standard Procedures supporting company-wide operational, service and safety guidelines
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills
- Other duties as assigned

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Experience using analytical instrumentation and associated software such as HPLC, Gas Chromatography, or Infrared Spectroscopy
- Experience in analytical lab testing and analysis.
- Experience in using laboratory computer systems, ie: Access Database or other lab software to enter lab results

- Must be able to:

- lift and carry up to 55 pounds
- sit, stand, kneel, climb stairs, ladders and work at heights as necessary
- work in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Self-motivation and ability to work in an environment without direct supervision for periods of time. Ability to act in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures supporting company-wide operational, service and safety guidelines
