Environmental Lab Technician

Key

**Responsibilities**:

- Conduct lab testing of profile, incoming and outgoing waste samples
- Input analysis data to File Maker database
- Perform testing to create batch recipes for WWTP to ensure discharge parameters will be meet
- Conduct testing on process samples from WWTP
- Conduct testing of effluent samples from WWTP to ensure discharge parameters have been meet
- Preparation of standards and solutions used in lab testing
- Interrupt results of incoming waste loads to direct to appropriate disposal process
- Conduct weekly QC testing of Dust Control product samples
- Perform any required equipment maintenance as directed
- Monitor lab supply consumption and report low levels to Technical Manager
- General lab housekeeping duties
- Provide assistance to Environmental Customer Service Specialist as needed
- Communicate effectively with yard staff for direction of waste to appropriate locations
- Communicate effectively with haulers in receiving and completing of disposal documents
- Other duties as assigned

Education/Knowledge/ Experience
- Completed an accredited post-secondary institution, preferably in a Chemical or Environmental Technician program, or comparable experience
- TDGA, WHMIS training
Skills and Abilities
- Environmental lab equipment such as GC, pH meter, balances and centrifuges
- Communication skills: verbal and written
- Trouble shooting
- Data interpretation
- Customer Service

Environment/Working Conditions
Health and Safety Considerations / Unusual Working Conditions
- Regular exposure to hazardous materials
- Use of personal protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses, lab coat, face shield, safety shoes, ear plugs) as required
- Fume hood work
- Exposure to slip, trip and fall hazards
- Exposure to heat and steam
Work Environment
- Casual laboratory and industrial transfer station/processing environment
- Work is normally conducted Monday − Friday with a 9 hour shift falling between the hours of 7:00am − 6:00pm
- Overtime and weekend hours may be required
Physical Demands
- Standing at lab work stations
- Sitting at desk using a computer for data entry
- Lifting and carrying equipment or supplies of up to 20 lbs
- Climbing stairs multiple times per day
- Mental concentration to safety protocols and procedures are followed at all times

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $19.00-$28.00 per hour
