The York Catholic District School Board is seeking an experienced and proven leader to assume the role of Superintendent of Human Resources.

The York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) is one of the top-performing school boards in Ontario and one of the largest Catholic school boards in the province. Located in one of the fastest growing areas in North America, the Regional Municipality of York, in the Greater Toronto Area, the Board serves the Region’s nine municipalities (Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Whitchurch-Stouffville, and King Township).

Recognized as innovative, collaborative and fiscally responsible, the York Catholic District School Board provides a distinctive Catholic education to more than 50,000 students. With an operating budget in excess of $600 million, the Board operates 101 schools (85 elementary and 16 secondary) and employs more than 5,600 unionized and non-unionized staff, which translates into a complex and challenging mandate for the new Superintendent of Human Resources.

Guided by the Multi-Year Strategic Plan, the Board provides an innovative curriculum of Catholic Education rooted in Gospel values, inspiring all students to reach their full potential in a safe and caring environment. In accordance with the Board’s mission and vision, the Superintendent of Human Resources possesses a proven track record in providing departmental and system leadership, is responsible for the full range of Human Resource functions of the Board and provides leadership in the strategic planning, development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of Human Resources programs, policies, processes and procedures ensuring compliance with applicable legislation as well as Board policies.

Reporting to the Director of Education, and working effectively with the Board of Trustees and Senior Management, the Superintendent is responsible for: Human Resources, Labour Relations, Recruitment and Selection, School Staffing, Attendance Support, Health and Wellness, Occupational Health and Safety, Disability Management, Human Resources Information Systems and Organizational Development.

The Superintendent will have a strong understanding of the K-12 education sector, will support the values of the YCDSB and will be a demonstrated leader who will work effectively in a collaborative decision-making environment. The Superintendent will possess excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving, negotiation and management skills and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with trustees, the other members of the senior management team, the general public, unions/associations, community partners and Ministry officials.
