Family & Children's Services Intake

The person responsible for Intake functions as a primary navigator, helping families understand and access various programs and services within early intervention and family support, completes necessary paperwork, and interprets diagnostic and assessment information from multiple sources. This navigation support extends beyond simple understanding of any diagnosis, screening or assessment to include meaningful advocacy and emotional support for families. In their day-to-day work, the person actively facilitates communication and collaboration among the Program Coordinators/Supervisors and external stakeholders such as private therapists, medical professionals, and educational staff. A significant aspect of the coordinated and centralized intake involves connecting families with appropriate resources and support within their communities. This includes identifying funding sources, linking families with parent support networks, helping locate additional services and organizing and facilitating group events and workshops as children and family needs evolve.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- 4-year degree from a university or college of recognized standing in a field related to the position (e.g. Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology).
- Maintain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check clearance throughout employment
- First Aid with CPR
- Willingness to work evenings/weekends (flextime)
- NVCI/MANDT training
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of three years’ experience facilitating a process of individual planning and service coordination for families of children birth to 19 who require additional support; experience with a variety of early intervention and youth and child development programs and services.
- A high level of understanding of child development and the impact of disability and delay on growth and development; experience conducting a range of screening and assessment tools
- Demonstrated understanding of family systems, core issues related to lifelong disability/Community Living and ability to support families within a family-centred framework.
- Demonstrated practical experience in exercising independent judgement and initiative. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal, including record keeping, reporting, presentation and public speaking skills) and ability to work as an effective team member.
- Knowledge of and experience working with community agencies and government systems and services, including the health and education systems and the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
- Experience in establishing relationships and working collaboratively with community members and related organizations.
