This position is a temporary Maternity leave coverage.

Providing services to families whose children and youth have, or are suspected to have Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) or other complex developmental behavioural conditions comparable to FASD. The Key Worker will support families during and after the assessment/diagnostic process, facilitate the development of individual plans and provide information that facilitates accommodations specific to the developmental needs of the children and youth. The Key Worker will facilitate parent-to-parent connections and work pro-actively with other community organizations and service providers in the ongoing delivery and development of services for children and youth.

EDUCATION (REQUIRED):

- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, Special Education or Nursing from a post-secondary institution of recognized standing.

EXPERIENCE:

- Minimum 3 years of experience facilitating individual planning, supporting families, and service providers involved with children and youth with complex developmental behavioural needs/FASD, implementing these plans.
- Experience with adult education, preferably in the area of supporting families and service providers to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to understand and address a child’s support needs.
- Experience with and understanding of a range of assessment tools applicable to children and youth and demonstrated ability to interpret assessment results.
- Experience working with inter-ministerial systems and initiatives (e.g. Ministry of Children and Family Development, Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education).
- Experience in establishing relationships and working collaboratively with community members and related organizations.
- Requires demonstrated practical experience in: exercising independent judgment and initiative; excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal, including record keeping, reporting, facilitation, presentation and public speaking skills) and ability to work as an effective team member.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

- Requires strong understanding of child and youth development and the impact of disability on development throughout the age range as well as a working knowledge of an accommodation approach to addressing neurologically based behaviours.
- A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record check clearance and maintenance of throughout employment.
- BCGEU Union membership is required.
- Current First Aid / CPR certificate.
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training or MANDT Training Certificate
