**Driller’s Assistant**

**Job Description** **Summary**: Assists driller in drilling operations including:

- Assisting in drill loading, unloading and load securement
- Setting up drill and equipment on site
- Handling sampling equipment and providing samples to client
- Handling augers and other drill tooling
- Assisting with equipment maintenance and repair (including tooling maintenance)
- Cleaning equipment and keeping work area clean and free of debris
- Maintaining a clean and organized truck and drill
- Hauling supplies and equipment
- Using tools, equipment and machinery including pickups, wrenches, fall protection systems and other safety equipment

**Skills and Ability**:

- Ability to read and write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
- Ability to speak clearly to others and understand directions given
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
- Ability to work in a team environment and react to urgent operational needs

**Certificates, Licenses, Registrations and Equipment**:

- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Current driver’s license (DZ or AZ preferred) with clean drivers abstract
- Graduate of SSFC Drilling Program (asset but not required)

**While performing the duties of this job**:

- The employee is regularly required to stand, bend and twist, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, talk or hear, and reach above the shoulder with hands and arms
- The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk and sit
- The employee regularly performs work involving use of hands and wrists
- The employee is occasionally required to walk on uneven surfaces
- The employee must frequently (3-6 times/hour) lift and/or move 40 to 70 pounds and occasionally, with help, up to 100 pounds
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Good eye-to-hand coordination is essential

**Work Environment**:

- The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment
- The employee is occasionally exposed to chemicals
- The employee is frequently exposed to vibration and noise
- The employee may be exposed to hazards confined spaces, working at heights and dusty conditions
- The employee may work in extremely hot or extremely cold environmental conditions
- The employee may be required to work 14-hours in a day

Schedule:

- 12 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Hamilton, ON L8W 3N1: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
